Which items? Was it much hassle / worth it (ie. do you wish you just got the Platinum package)? BADH: Do you recall how much "Distance Allowance" was in your tender? We are going in tmrw to talk through details and have been told this is a substantial amount for us due to location. We were expecting around $6K for our Council, but apparently it is more. [FYI, as our house is Custom the tender process seems more vague but also requires some negotiation. Current position: Base Price $311K, Options $118K, Site $84K, Statutory $30K TOTAL around $543K which is not what we were expecting... So we have a lot of research and work to do! This forum has been fabulous, and our consultant has indicated there is room to move but its just finding out which bits can move and down how much, or rather what extra bits to negotiate in!]. I was expecting that fee ititally when we received our tender however we were never charged it. Not sure why but never question an added bonus like that!!! Re: Masterton Homes - The new thread 1047Apr 13, 2010 7:46 am sabs1 JimToi Hello - quick Qs Hi JT: We are also building a custom Vallina/Fern, we opted not to go for the platinum package as the options were not what we wanted and we are just upgrading off the mansion pack. Our build up is as follows. Site and council 63K, House 375k(incl mods ), Tiles + upgrades 60k, pool 44k, landscaping etc 50k - so about 580k. Site and stat costs for you seem excessive. *** Hi sabs1. Thanks! Where are you building? [We are Lower North Shore]. What stage are you up to? T ps: I sent you a PM also (if it worked!). Did you ask for, or get, a powepoint anywhere on your island bench? We asked for one on the side and were told it's just not possible, unless they run a pipe on the ouside of the bench for the wiring to the powerpoint. We really pushed for it at the time as it seemed ridiculous to me.. and still does. But they said they just don't do it. Has anyone had a different response? Is this something I can do after handover (or ask the sparky while he's onsite)? Also... we wanted a powerpoint on one of our stair landings so we could put our fishtank there. Again... the Masterton electricians don't do powerpoints anywhere along the stairs. Anyone else had this issue? Thanks! Hey Lizzy we wanted the same thing - a powerpoint on the side of the island that we could use for the mix master. Anyway as there a drawer runners inside the island on the other side of where the point would be they can't put it in. Of course behind the microwave there is a point so we made it a double so we could plug in there unfortunately it's just a pain to get to as the microwave is a very tight squeeze. Not sure about the stairs sorry. Re: Masterton Homes - The new thread 1050Apr 13, 2010 2:21 pm Got the same house as you and got the same answer as you. Santorini Grande Executive Re: Masterton Homes - The new thread 1051Apr 13, 2010 3:18 pm Thanks BADH and EmoH. Very frustrating. I can understand they can't run the wiring inside the cupboards where the drawers are. But on our island, the drawers are only on one side so I can't see why they couldn't: 1. do the wiring on the cupboard side of the island; or 2. put a powerpoint on the back wall of the island, directly behind where the dishwasher would be. There is already provision for a dishwasher powerpoint inside the island. Is it really impossible to feed extra wiring through to add a powerpoint on the outiside at the same place? Anyway, will ask the sparkies once they are onsite. If it's something they can come back and do later, I'll be happy, but I suspect they will need to put the wiring in place first since all the cabling/wiring runs through the slab to get to the island. Congrats on your brickies starting, must be nice to see action. On the island wiring - we had a related conversation today (but more in relation to ethernet cabling - my hubby is a computer person and wants to do unconventional wiring). Our consultant said rather than through Masterton best thing is to speak to electrician direct when they are on site, perhaps negotiate some extra for time / cabling etc at the time. So thats what we will do for a few of our 'out-of-the-Masterton-box' items. We didn't want to put it on the side but at the top of the barback(?) - so it'll be virtually unseen. We didn't get powerpoints on the stairs but did get batten lights installed at height suitable for stair lights. They also wouldn't do a light directly above the stairs but again did a junction box instead. and Lizzy..... Woohoo!!! About bloody time! Did you insulate with Batts (plus sarking) or Anticon (more $)? We queried whether enough roof cavity for Batts but Masterton / our consultant are still a bit new at the flat roof designs it seems (BADH - did you say yours was one of the first? Or just for the Villina?). Interested to know what insulation other Flat Roofers did? (Our preference is Batts plus sarking as R3.5 is higher than Anticon, plus cheaper). Every dollar counts, right?! Hi Lizzy, We're built the Fernleigh and got a power point in the back of our Island bench, no problem. I don't understand why they wouldn't be able to do it. It cost extra because they had to put a conduit piping in the slab, but that was the only difference. Like Mrs Rose, they wouldn't put a light point in the top of the stairs and put a junction box in the ceiling.
