My building thread..viewtopic.php?f=31&t=19421 Brickies started 5/10 Re: Has anyone built with Homebuyers Centre in Perth? 64Jan 06, 2010 6:20 pm Sigh... I feel that I have been * to by CL. Though she was just passing the message she received from the site manager. She told me that the brickies has started the week before Christmas and yet when I was up (40+ minutes drive, 1/4 of my petrol tank) not a single brick was on slab. And that the brickies will be done in mid January. I can't see how the brickies can complete it so quickly in 2 weeks. When I was there, my future neighbour whose slab was layed about 3 weeks after me has had their bricks on site around the same time as me. So sad.... What is HBC doing? Slab completed earlier then my future neighbour and yet both brickies will probably start around the same time. Oh! Almost forgot to mention, someone broke the tap and had the water running for days! I thought the site manager would have check it before leaving for the day. I don't think its kids as I have yet seen any around. Most probably the trades themselves. I wonder how much of a water bill I will receive... Just received a rather large electric bill. (someone share some light please....) Almost $200!!! when the only things done was laying the slab. I mean if they need to use power, it can't be that much... can it? My extensive use of electricity (air-con, tv, laptops, electric heater shower, fans etc) does not even add up to that much of a usage for such a short time. To end of I need to mention - my CL and pre-start lady are excellent from my point of view or it could be the money-sucking salesman being too out of the world that cause me to have this point of view. Either way, hopefully 2010 will be a better year. at least I don't have to deal with that money-sucking salesman. Mine has just told me that the roof carpentry is due to commence next week and yet it was actually completed prior to the christmas shutdown. Re: Has anyone built with Homebuyers Centre in Perth? 67Jan 06, 2010 11:59 pm i have to agree there.. i recon they are the last ones to know our CLO was good but we always knew what was happening before she did.. had a plesant experience with them would build again but the next house will be alot flashier than they can provide Harrisdale backyard finally done! Re: Has anyone built with Homebuyers Centre in Perth? 69Feb 05, 2010 3:35 pm Had another disappointment... But it is a rather good start to 2010. None of the money sucking sales man. Or maybe I've learnt to relax a little. Roof not up... bricks are partially done. Saw one of the brickies the other day, not hot looking at all. I thought all brickies are suppose to be hot! He was rather old. Note to self: think positive, at least he has the experience as compared to a young and hot looking brickies. The old brickies was very proud of his work and take pride in it. At least that is how it sounded to me. Told me that a 'ghost wind' blew down one of the brick walls they just put up and they had to clean off the cement of the bricks to re-use it. I've taken a number of photos of the half built house. Its in my to do list when my com is fixed. (nice way to start 2010 with my computer nto working when I needed it) I've totally forgot everything about the colours I've chosen for the house. Maybe except a dark red door . Thought the colour looks pretty nice and had a nice contrast with the earthy colour I've chosen for the front walls. But I think I'm regreting it a little as I can't remember how red it is. Did not take any samples/picture during pre-start (to avoid disappointment) - my bad. My paint brush is ready or maybe I should get heaps of tapes and newspaper. And I better make it to the door before my partner does cos he wasn't too keen on that. And yet he did not stop me. Re: Has anyone built with Homebuyers Centre in Perth? 70Feb 05, 2010 3:57 pm We have had some of the strongest winds of the this and last year over the last few weeks. Sustained winds as well in excess of 50 km's hr on some days with recorded gusts of 70km's hr. For the wall to fall down is hardly surprising. Ani had one topple over in high winds as well going back a while ago. I'd not be so harsh on the brickie Re: Has anyone built with Homebuyers Centre in Perth? 71Feb 09, 2010 2:24 pm I agree to that. Wind has been pretty strong for summer this year. I'm just disappointed that it fall because of the wind. I'm just anixous to know if there was a much stronger wind, would the complete walls stays up... I was told that the brickies were paid based on the number of bricks they've done. Hopefully, they are paid for those that fall as well as my brickies (or at least that brickie I met) were very nice. They took pride in their work. Will be heading there again today for the last time this month as I'm heading overseas. Hopefully by the time I'm back, the roof will be up. Oh. Would it be a crime to give some beers to the brickies at the end of the day? I think it will be nice if I show some appreciation to the 2 brickies. Re: Has anyone built with Homebuyers Centre in Perth? 73Feb 09, 2010 3:04 pm I hope so. As the brickie that I saw the other day looks injuried. He had bandage around his right wrist. When I asked him about it, he mentioned of old age. A little gift will hopefully brighten up their day. I do hope that it isn't breaking any of their work rules or any legal legislation. I would hate to know my little gifts caused them problems. Re: Home being built by Homebuyers Centre 75Mar 19, 2010 7:23 pm O when o when will the tile of the roof be up, o when o when will it be? Hopefully it fits nicely in... Re: Home being built by Homebuyers Centre 76Apr 16, 2010 2:55 pm The tiles of the roof is up! The cement plastering and the internal white plastering is done! Glass windows and sliding doors are in! But.... I still can see some holes in between the tiles, when will that be fixed? Its like the tiles weren't cemented together. Just realised I should have asked about how the windows open. One of the kitchen windows is placed in a really hard to open way... should be the reverse... Love the white plastering. Makes the whole place looks so bright and open. Maybe I should just paint the whole house white... *Think positive, it is my first built and it will not be perfect. Re: Home being built by Homebuyers Centre 78Apr 20, 2010 5:31 pm Thanks... It has been a long agonising wait... Does this means that the house will be at the lockup stage next? How long after the lockup stage would I have to wait? Would it be a good idea to climb up the manhole to have a check once the keys has been handed over? Re: Home being built by Homebuyers Centre 79Apr 20, 2010 11:53 pm Qiao Ru. don't go up in the roof unless you have experience, the ceiling joists can span 2.4mtrs which you cant transverse safely and you know us older brickies may no longer be hot lookin but we are a better layers Re: Home being built by Homebuyers Centre 80Apr 21, 2010 7:30 pm Perth Builder Qiao Ru. don't go up in the roof unless you have experience, the ceiling joists can span 2.4mtrs which you cant transverse safely and you know us older brickies may no longer be hot lookin but we are a better layers Thanks for informing me. I won't want to break any of my bones. How do I check if the roof tile has been done properly as the last I check I was able to see sunlight coming through the gaps. Sorry! Just that I have been given the impression that brickies are usually youngster. I feel bad about the matured brickie that was allocated to my house. Its like he injuried himself while doing it.
