Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Left of Square: CMET’s Journey...with EBH! Brick Pics 27/09! 21Sep 29, 2009 8:05 pm Our Brickwork has been completed! The entire house has been finished in a week! I wonder if that is a record. They even worked on Saturday to finish the garage and completed the front balcony yesterday. Here is a picture of the finished front of the house: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ And here is a close up of the Balcony showing our feature brick: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ We can’t wait for them to be cleaned so that we can see how well the colours blend in together! The scaffolding is starting to go up today, so I guess we will see some eaves and gutters with a roof hopefully not too far behind. Cheers, CMET Re: Left of Square: CMET’s Journey...with EBH! Brick Done 29/09! 24Sep 29, 2009 10:10 pm Hi Makoby, Thanks for the reply. Our window frames are APO Grey. They blend in really nicely with the colour of the bricks, and if anything tend to take on some of the colours that they project. Cheers, CMET Left of Square: CMET’s Journey...with EBH! We have a roof 16 25Oct 16, 2009 7:08 pm After the rain last week and the strong winds at the start of this week, we finally have a roof!
Since my last post, the scaffolding was erected and the gutters and fascia where installed last week. The front render was also done over the weekend. Our roof was started yesterday and they completed it today. We are very happy with the way that the colours are blending with the rest of the house and can’t wait to see the ground floor roof completed. Here are some pictures of the roof: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ And finally, a picture of our balcony; roofed and rendered: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Hope you have a great weekend! Cheers, CMET Re: Left of Square: CMET’s Journey...with EBH! We have a 16/10! 26Oct 31, 2009 9:49 pm It has been a quiet couple of weeks on site. Our Independent building inspection was carried out about ten days ago and the good news is that there where not major faults detected; only a few minor issues with the frame and brickwork to be addressed, so great work EB. We had a bit of activity towards the end of this week whereby the following has been now completed: First floor eaves completed First floor bricks cleaned First floor downpipes installed Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Not a lot to show in pictures with all of the scaffolding, but here is a quick one of the balcony showing our main brick and feature brick together: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Now that they are clean, we are really happy with our choice and also how they blend so well with the roof. All going well, we should see some external painting done next week and the site prepared for the ground floor roof to go on the following week. Hope you have a great weekend! Cheers, CMET Re: Left of Square: CMET’s Journey...with EBH! Update 31/10! 27Nov 01, 2009 6:53 am I really like your two different coloure bricks together, you're right they do look great with the colorbond roof. Is it loft? Update 31/10! 28Nov 01, 2009 6:49 pm Hi Caz, Our roof colour is actually ironstone! Our bricks are PGH mild steel and Blue Steel flash, and we really feel that the roof brings out some great colours in the feature brick. What colours have you chosen for your build? Cheers, CMET Re: Left of Square: CMET’s Journey...with EBH! Update 31/10! 29Nov 14, 2009 9:38 am Not alot has happened in the past fortnight! Most of the scaffolding has been taken down and removed from site. Here are some pictures from last week: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ After speaking with our SS yesterday, it turns out that the delay has been caused by the roof guys, as they requires scaffolding to return to site so that they can complete the roof over the garage. The scaffolding that they normally use is not enough, so there is a bit of a stand off occurring at the moment until this can be arranged! Extremely annoying, as the scaffold was only taken away during the week and the fact that we have lost at least a week with no activity. This should hopefully be resolved this week. We should also see the air con and electrical rough in happen next week, all going well. Hope you have a great weekend, and that I have more to report on next week. Cheers, CMET Re: Left of Square: CMET’s Journey...with EBH! Update 14/11! 31Nov 14, 2009 10:03 am Welcome Back Southies! Hope you had a great holiday. Thanks for your comments about the bricks. We are really happy with how they have come up and can't wait to see all of the ground floor bricks cleaned. Cheers, CMET Re: Left of Square: CMET’s Journey...with EBH! Update 22/11! 32Nov 22, 2009 7:57 pm After the ground floor roofing dramas last week, the scaffolding has now been re-erected ready for the roof to go on. The fixing supports have gone on ready for the sarking to go on and then the roof will finally be completed. The air con rough in happened during the week as well. We had a few dramas getting a duct through to the home theatre, but in the end we reduced the size of the shower in the main bathroom, as this was the best option that we had. They also completed the electrical rough in at the end of the week, so we are all cabled up! We managed to avert some of the issues with down lights lining up with beams by adding a few to the entry, so that they are now evenly spaced in the foyer. Here are a few pics, although not a lot has really changed. This angle shows the roof causing all of the problems and the scaffold that has been re-erected: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Hopefully the ground floor roof will be completed this week and they can start to get on with the internals! Update 22/11! 33Nov 23, 2009 2:37 pm Hi CMET, wow your house has been going up amazingly fast. im building 2 streets away from you (recongise the location from the houses in the background of your pictures). we have been building since april and are still not finished. they have really slowed down this last month with only completing the shower screens, carpet, building a wall they forgot to build and fixing 3 downlights that were put in the wrong spot. maybe your site is taking all the tradies away from mine? j/k we are also building with EB. they have been quite good until recently. Now we hope to settle before christmas and the industry shutdown. my fingers are crossed but theres a real chance we may not settle until february . your place is looking good. i drive past it when i visit my house as its along the way. goodluck for the rest of your build. We are also using a contrasting feature brick on our house & it's good to see someone else doing it as most people seem to use render as a feature. I must agree that the ironstone roof goes really well with the feature brick. We wonder now , how long the moroka will last before it needs repairing and now also wonder how long before our house looks dated, which is what we were trying to avoid . Your contrasting bricks look far more effective. Good choice. Built the Eden Brae Cambridge 34 Family with Boston Corner Facade Re: Left of Square: CMET’s Journey...with EBH! Melanie Hi Melanie, Your house is looking great too! It must be really frustrating to be so close to finishing and Christmas coming quickly too. Have you had your PCI as yet? Good Luck over the next few weeks and I hope that all works out well. Cheers, CMET Re: Left of Square: CMET’s Journey...with EBH! Your build is progressing quickly & hope it continues that way for you, Loretta Hi Loretta, Thank you for your comments on how our house is looking. It is such a relief when you see the bricks actually up and you are happy with the choices that you made about six months ago! It almost went wrong when the original main brick that we chose was rejected by the developer, and we thought we had to start over. In the end we upgraded to a similar brick and in hindsight, it looks even better than what we originally chose, except for the upgrade cost! What colours are you using for your bricks? Good luck with the rest of your build. Cheers, CMET Re: Left of Square: CMET’s Journey...with EBH! Update 22/11! 38Nov 24, 2009 6:32 am Southies Hey there CMET........when the commons bricks started going up on our place (where the moroka was going) we were sorry we hadn't scrapped the moroka & gone with contrasting bricks, like yourself. Your contrasting bricks look far more effective. Good choice. Hi Southies, The estate that we are building in has alot of moroka in there facades and we decided that we wanted to do something a little bit different. We decided to use the two bricks, and then add some render to the first floor across the front of the house. Will need to wait and see how the render looks when we have some colour on it, and see how it looks with the other bricks. Cheers, CMET Re: Left of Square: CMET’s Journey...with EBH! Update 22/11! 39Nov 24, 2009 8:36 am Hi CMET...Sounds like it was good that the developer knocked back your first choice of brick but shame the others were an upgrade(don't you end up hating that word!).We also had restrictions by the developer on our brick & exterior colour choices. Our bricks are - Austral Urban one Silver & Pepper for the feature. There are pics on my thread below.Hopefully they will be finished the bricking today! We were lucky to see our brick combination on another H1'ers house...that helped a lot! Update 22/11! 40Nov 24, 2009 7:23 pm Hi Loretta, You certainly get sick of the word "Upgrade" by the end of the process, that's for sure! Your build looks like it progressing really well. Did they manage to get the bricking completed, even in the drizzly weather? Once we decided on the main brick, we where tossing up between the dark brown feature brick with a monument roof, or the Blue Steel flash with the Ironstone roof. Happy with the choice we made in the end. Now they just have to finish the ground floor roof and we can see how it all looks together! Good luck with the rest of your build and hope that all goes well. Cheers, CMET Most of the time, council will push you out to a private certifier as it ties up their limited resources.
