My contract says 2 coats 2Aug 20, 2009 12:05 pm Hi, we are getting 3 coats in our new house, but our old one we had 2 coats and it's ok, look wise, but we repainted in a couple of years as it did not look good after this time. Also the painters put 2 thin coats on which dont help - I think they water it down to make their paint go further and keep costs down. My contract says 2 coats 3Aug 20, 2009 12:15 pm We upgraded to 3 coats and better quality paint with Teflon in it to make cleaning easier. I haven't studied it carefully under lights yet (still waiting for PCI), but it looks like a great coverage from what I have seen. Cost a small fortune, though! If you can pay the painter directly, then do it! Saves you the trouble in a few years time Henley - Wilshire Mk 3 ... I love my house!! My contract says 2 coats 4Aug 20, 2009 2:19 pm Hi, we got two coats which lucky for us our ss said we picked a good colour for coverage. It was a bit patchy in places which the painters fixed and I wish now we had of paid for a 3rd coat but we can always do that ourselves down the track Re: How many coats of paint did you do? My contract says 2 coats 5Aug 20, 2009 2:37 pm We've paid for 3 Coat paint system (scrubbable deluxe finish) to living & garage area, this has cost us over $2000 extra so I hope it's worth it, with the benefit of hindsight we probably should have paid the painter cash, like we have with a couple of the other tradies. Re: How many coats of paint did you do? My contract says 2 coats 7Aug 20, 2009 2:55 pm ours is also 2 coats of paint, hopefully its ok at the end - cant get inside to look at it Re: How many coats of paint did you do? My contract says 2 coats 8Aug 20, 2009 3:10 pm I spoke with a painter who lives in our area...he used to paint for Simm*** and now doesnt b/c he hated painting onlky two coats when he knew walls need the three...he felt it reflected badly on him... When we build Ill go with three... Re: How many coats of paint did you do? My contract says 2 coats 10Aug 20, 2009 3:40 pm borg Soon your roof will be an extra, and so will glazing on your windows. So true, Thanks for your input everyone I just couldn't be bothered painting myself later on if it needed, and besides I hate cleaning the brushes afterwards I think I will speak with the painter and go with the 3 coat system etc, i can't believe it really it should be standard, undercoat and 2 coat colour mmmmmmm these companies are so clever add add add $$$. https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=19655 FINALLY slab down 5th SEPT Oct 16 Bricking/ plaster starting Dec 1 Painting started END OF CONTRACT IS UP SOON HURRY UP AND FINISH MY HOME..... countdown to 27th Feb. Not enough cover (and some colours show up a lot worse than others). Minimum on walls should be undercoat and 2 finishing coats. Blog is now up - http://www.jbdave.blogspot.com/ Re: How many coats of paint did you do? My contract says 2 coats 12Aug 20, 2009 3:58 pm We have three as standard, gives a better finish esp that it is sprayed on. My contract says 2 coats 13Aug 20, 2009 6:57 pm My brothers house only had 2 coats and you could see all the joins in plaster sheet and any patch ups through the paint. My house (building through Inspired Homes) is 3 coats standard. Our house thread: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=18335 Re: How many coats of paint did you do? My contract says 2 coats 14Aug 20, 2009 9:39 pm We are building with M and they do 3 coats. Our painter rollered all of our coats and it looks flawless but he said other painters with the company spray the 3 coats on and it still isn't often enough as they are really thin coats. I think 2 rollered coats may be better than 3 sprayed coats for coverage. Re: How many coats of paint did you do? My contract says 2 coats 15Aug 20, 2009 9:53 pm we're building with an independent builder, getting an acrylic undercoat then 2 coats of low sheen Re: How many coats of paint did you do? Just do what any sane person would do: Throw it out and buy a replacement one. Re: How many coats of paint did you do? My contract says 2 coats 18Aug 22, 2009 6:50 pm Sadly with most project builders, 2 coats means 1 undercoat (sometimes coloured to help coverage) and 1 top coat. Cheers In our extension I did all the painting myself. Ceilings especially require lots of paint because you want them to be a perfect, plain white. You do not want to see any trace of joins between sheets of gyprock. I started with an undercoat sealer, and then added coats of ceiling white until I was happy with the look. I only use the best quality Solver paints (not their trade line). This took 5 coats in total. I can't imagine 2 being enough, 3 might work. Peter.
