Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Aug 20, 2009 10:42 am Hi, I was wondering (if you dont mind me asking) who everyone has gone with for their home and contents insurance once the house was built? What made you choose them? What did they have to offer? Thanks Building Our First Home! PCI Date - 28/08/09!!!!! HANDOVER - 4th SEPTEMBER!!!!!! Re: Home & Contents Insurance - Who to use? 2Aug 20, 2009 10:47 am We have always used SGIC (for over 20 years in old house and now in new one) and found them very reliable, competitive rates, and good service. Not much use to you in Sydney though Re: Home & Contents Insurance - Who to use? 3Aug 20, 2009 11:24 am I just did an online quote for AAMI and they were $200 cheaper than my brokers quote from CGU! i just took up my car insurance with them too. i dont know if they are any good though, but in times like these, i need to save as much as i can! We saved about $150 of our policy by switching, and the new policy we opened up was also with a 20k addition to our valuables, over the previous policy. Re: Home & Contents Insurance - Who to use? 5Aug 20, 2009 11:36 am Hi All, Thanks for the replies so far... Ladsos - i did check with AAMI and i do have 2 lots of car insurance with them. They came in a little bit cheaper, but they dont cover for any flood damage, so that was off the list... Building Our First Home! PCI Date - 28/08/09!!!!! HANDOVER - 4th SEPTEMBER!!!!!! Re: Home & Contents Insurance - Who to use? 6Aug 20, 2009 1:07 pm We currently have insurance through Affinity Insurance Brokers, PDS for Home Insurance available here http://www.affinityib.com.au/product-disclosure-statement-home. Very happy with the insurance policy, although I do not know how the price compares to other providers. I'm not sure about flood cover on this policy either. We saved about $150 of our policy by switching, and the new policy we opened up was also with a 20k addition to our valuables, over the previous policy. But do your homework and check this out - when my son bought a house he was offerred insurance thru ANZ at their discount rate for home loan customers - we then got a quote from SGIC and it was still considerably cheaper - ended up going with SGIC not the ANZ one. But some banks may offer better deals than others Re: Home & Contents Insurance - Who to use? 8Aug 20, 2009 6:44 pm Helyn jcjuice if you can get insurance with the bank that has your mortgage, you can often get a better deal. Re: Home & Contents Insurance - Who to use? 9Aug 20, 2009 6:52 pm We are with Westpac mainly because I am staff. However I do get quotes every time a renewal comes up from our lending Bank as well as our Insurance broker. Every time Westpac has always come out on top - both for coverage as well as premium. I think there is a website isn't there that will do a comparison for you? Is it Iselect? Or is that only for health / personal insurances? Some things are worth waiting for. Re: Home & Contents Insurance - Who to use? 10Aug 20, 2009 7:05 pm We will be using Shannons when our place is done. Mainly because I get a multi policy discount, and also get a CAMS (racing) licence holder discount. They are one of the few company's that will insure car parts as contents, as well as good cover for tools, both of which are important for me. Re: Home & Contents Insurance - Who to use? 11Aug 20, 2009 7:23 pm Hi there, Just a note about flood cover. You will find it hard getting flood cover. Flood is when rising waters flood your property. Flash flooding is after a storm etc. usually up to 24 hours after the storm. When there is a flood and insurance does not cover this the government has appeals to assist people to help. I am with CommInsure and they have been good. AAMI are cheap for a reason you only get what you pay for. We too will be going through Shannons they were over $250 less than everyone else and also include $10,000 garage insurance for tools, car parts etc which will come in handy because DP is an entusiast as they put it plus we get a discount as DP has 2 policy's with them. They cover the same as everyone else I got quotes with.. we also didn't got with AAMI as they didn't do flood (even though we are at the top of the hill its important to have) 2nd build here we come in Whittlesea! https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=92617 1st Build - Henley - Cooper in Doreen! This is an accidental damage cover with a $100 excess. I'm happy with that but have no idea if it's comparable to anyone else though!
