Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Aug 19, 2009 12:44 am We paid extra to have soundscreen installed in the home theatre on the two internal walls. External walls have R2.5 insulation batts. It's all been installed but I'm a little suspicious...confused....as it all looks the same. How can i tell the difference between the two so that I know if they have put in what we paid for and not just normal batts. Re: colour difference between soundscreen and normal batts?? 3Aug 19, 2009 7:49 am my sound insulation batt's were just a particular type of pink batt so other than finding a bag the batt's came in somewhere in the rubbish feeling is the only way, and with my experience being very little i think you'll find it pretty tough going by feel too. My sound batt's were pretty tough to feel, like the batt would stand up on its own pretty much. But i dont know what a normal batt feels like Blog - http://snakedr.blogspot.com/ Build Thread - viewtopic.php?f=31&t=12084&p=307406#p307406 Status - PCI 15/10. Things nearly done. Re: colour difference between soundscreen and normal batts?? 4Aug 19, 2009 9:25 am If "Bradford Soundscreen" batts were speficied in the contract, phone Bradford and ask them what colour the'd be. Check their webpage at: http://www.bradfordinsulation.com.au/Products/Residential/Acoustic-insulation/SoundScreen-Plus-internal.aspx Yes they are much denser than normal thermal batts. What thickness or R-rating dis you specify? Re: colour difference between soundscreen and normal batts?? 5Aug 19, 2009 9:48 am soundscreen was R2.0 and other batts were R2.5 We had no idea about R ratings for insulation....in hindsight....if we had known...we would have gotten something better but I guess some is better than none and thank goodness no bedrooms near the home theatre. Re: colour difference between soundscreen and normal batts?? 6Aug 19, 2009 10:02 am The R2.0 soundscreen batts are 75mm thick. I believe standard walls have about that gap, so you couldn't fit anything thicker than that in, anyway. So you've done well. Re: colour difference between soundscreen and normal batts?? 7Aug 19, 2009 11:26 am Soundscreen batts are green, or used to be. Re: colour difference between soundscreen and normal batts?? 8Aug 19, 2009 7:51 pm Our soundscreen batts are pink. They are sonobatts. http://www.pinkbatts.com.au/product.aspx?product_id=20 Re: colour difference between soundscreen and normal batts?? 10Aug 20, 2009 7:59 am I had the same dilema as you I paid extra and they all looked the same, I asked the ss and he said they were sound batts. I ended up taking his word for it but next time I will try and find out more as I always thought they would look different.
