Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Building a Santorini 26 in the heart of victoria! 201Dec 17, 2009 7:25 pm Our driveway is down and I've peeked through the windows to see that the faucets have started to go in! photos on the blog! We will see if we can get a meeting happening either Friday night or Monday night to see how the property will be left over the break. Our CSC has advised that it will be an end of Jan, start of Feb handover - which is not what the SS has advised. I'm more likely to take end of Jan to start of Feb as a realistic time frame. Anyway, check out our blog and tell us what you think, we are pretty happy with the colours etc. Cant wait for the final touches to be put in because everything will make sense then colour wise. I was all excited to see how your designer tap looks in the kitchen as we have the chosen the same one! Sounds like your tradies and SS are working through the holidays! The M*tricon office is closed untill the 11th Jan but I believe the SS has a tiler booked for the 4th Jan (unless he's telling me porky pies). So hopefully there wont be to much of a stall in the progress! Keep us updated if you have any more news though! Everyones gone so quiet now with the Holidays approaching, I dont know how Im going to get my house fix if there are no updates on H1 Oh well, I guess Il just have to do more house shopping Building: Santorini 26 with M*tricon Where:VIC Site Cut 29/09/09 Slab Complete 09/10/09 Frame Complete 22/10/09 LockUp Complete 17/11/09 Fixing Complete 03/12/09 **My Thread:[/i] viewtopic.php?f=31&t=23110 Re: Building a Santorini 26 in the heart of victoria! 203Dec 18, 2009 3:18 pm Our SS is off from 22nd too.. Im starting to think we should've gone with the monument grey for our back garage door as well! Yours looks great! Our colours consultant convinced us against it as she said "M*tricon dont like to use dark colours outside as they can warp"! So now we have everything in the monument apart from that - we chose paper bark on her recommendations! Hubby said worst case he'l just re paint it when we move in! We went through completely again last night to see if theres any changes.. all the plumbing is in, power is on, but still a few electrical things to be finished.. I've put shots of our basins, faucets and trough on blog (one is a little blurry, but worth a look) Builder: Me*tricon Homes Design: Freedom Range, Santorini 26 Handover Date: 12th February 2010 Homeone Thread: viewtopic.php?t=22216 Blogspot: http://www.evolvedmonkey-santorini26.blogspot.com Re: Building a Santorini 26 in the heart of victoria! 206Dec 30, 2009 4:02 pm Monkey - your home looks sensational!!! Just had a look at your blog and it's so exciting to see your house that close to the finish line! I'm lovin that front door and your tiling choices. Everything looks so fresh and strong, beautiful clean lines - LOVE it! In comparison, our house feels a bit like we're drowning in a sea of beige LOL but I keep telling myself that once we get settled and introduce some colour it'll be okay. We've done a lot of thinking about how we'll set up the living room and what to put where. Hubby has been concerned about the living area from the beginning - how to keep that sense of open flow between living areas, but still have it functional and cosy enough for watching tv and chatting with friends on the couch (especially important in our case because the rumpus is definitely going to be the kid's playroom, and the front room will be the study). We've carpeted the living area too which cuts off the living room a bit already. Are you planning to put your 5-seater so that the chaise runs parallel to the kitchen bench? We're leaning towards a 3-seater with chaise, and a 2-seater. We kinda need to make the decision tomorrow or risk missing out one of two good specials at the moment. So much fun! Where are getting your plantation shutters from? We're home!!! As for the chaise, thats exactly what we've gone for, the 3 seater with 2 1/2 chaise parrallel to the kitchen bench, so the body of the couch would be under the shutters. The chaise we've got does have a back to it for about 1 1/2 seats and then opens up like an ottoman for the last seat. The couch itself will sit nicely under the shutters, it may even show a touch over the dwalf wall but thats okay. Furniture is hard to think about without being in the place isnt it. We've got splashes of colours through our tiles and wifey has been getting 'like' coloured red pieces for the kitchen (weight scales, utensils and utensil racks for the walls, etc). Most of our furniture will be solid colours of black and white. No wood except for our shutters and kitchen benches. The only things we need at the moment is the wifes hobby room and entrance way tables from ikea, hopefully a new TV stand and display cabinet for the game room (your study). The rumpus will be lonely for the mean time with an old blue couch and old TV until we have the money and time. We have ordered our plantation shutters from dollar curtains and blinds, they were the most proactive and reasonably priced. Its amazing has stupid and/or daft the local curtain businesses around here are, I was on the edge of ranting and raving atleast 3 times while trying to get quotes... utterly hopeless.. Except for dollar curtains that is... We will plan a walkthrough this week to point out our concerns before their inspection. If we aren't happy with their end product we have a private inspector on call. So yeah! We have a date! Forum thread viewtopic.php?f=31&t=22300 Re: Building a Santorini 26 in the heart of victoria! 213Jan 16, 2010 11:15 am faerie - its all part of the 'fun and games' of building though isn't it, no doubt you'll enjoy the experience as soon as you see something coming up from the earth that you can call your own! penny - thanks! we are so excited, we walked through on friday by ourselves which was okay, but we've found so much to 'stress' about, too many to even list. So we will make a list of our concerns for next weeks official walkthrough and see how we go. Still think that we'll be getting our own QA go though. Some things are just so shotty at the moment that they MUST be planning to have it fixed before the walkthrough. emilygirl - I know! Wifey is stressing about packing, which I bet is the smart thing to be, but I just can't get myself to do anything until after this official walkthrough when I know for certain that things have been finished off and I know that things are on the cusp. At the moment, just not completely happy with everything. But SO SO SOOO close! Cant wait! prov1 - we had the fences paid for on our left and half of the back by metricon, but we I think the quote was about $70 p/metre or something like that. Your home is looking awesome I really like the pendants above the kitchen bench! We haven't decided what to go with yet but Im thinking something red, just to add that bit of red to the colour scheme I hope they rectify all the issues you have promptly so that it doesn't affect you handover date! Just a quick question - Are you going to wall mount that clothesline to the house or have it free standing like in your pics? I really wanted ours mounted to the wall near the laundry but there isnt enough free wall space, so the other option is to mount to the wall on the other side near the rumpus. Hubby thinks thats ridiculous and wants to concrete it into the ground on the side of the laundry. I dont know! This clothes line thing is probably one of many things hubby and I wont be able to agree on in the future Building: Santorini 26 with M*tricon Where:VIC Site Cut 29/09/09 Slab Complete 09/10/09 Frame Complete 22/10/09 LockUp Complete 17/11/09 Fixing Complete 03/12/09 **My Thread:[/i] viewtopic.php?f=31&t=23110 Re: Building a Santorini 26 in the heart of victoria! 215Jan 20, 2010 8:17 pm Shelz - RE: Clothesline, we're thinking that we'll probably have to cement it in against the fence line. It'd probably looking a little more pleasing on our rumpus wall but its too far away from the laundry. We'll hide it down the side there in a position that will get 'moderate to high' sunlight in the morning and 'light to moderate' light in the arvo. We've had our semi walkthroughs and not much has been done to be honest, a little concerned. To any case, they've booked us in for our final walkthrough next wednesday after work. We'll be pointing out the issues that still havent been completed that we are worried about. If its not done by their final handover, we'll have our own inspector through... as I've already said. lol. Just seem to need to reinforce as at the moment, a little disapointed.. but excited!!
