So we thought it best to give them an extra few days to ensure we werent disappointed if the works werent done by Thursday night. So.. Fingers crossed. Exciting. its all a bit 'funny' at the moment, not completely happy with a few issues, so i'd hope they'd fix them up this week Builder: Me*tricon Homes Design: Freedom Range, Santorini 26 Handover Date: 12th February 2010 Homeone Thread: viewtopic.php?t=22216 Blogspot: http://www.evolvedmonkey-santorini26.blogspot.com Re: Building a Santorini 26 in the heart of victoria! 185Dec 09, 2009 9:31 am emilygirl :: looking good!!!...not long now. do you remember how much your carpet was and did you upgrade??? We didnt upgrade our carpet, if we had the 'mula', 'greenback' or 'dosh' we probably would have. Although, in the business I'm in I see that the really 'nice' wooley carpet seems look great for the first few years, seems to look tired fast... just my point of view, may not be shared. So we went a hard wearing loop weave, a little bit modern in its appearance. I've been told by professionals that its more about your underlay as well than the actual carpet itself. Supposably for the firmness and give under foot? Can anyone else shed some light on their carpet choices/upgrades? The guy at M said best thing to do. So hopefully he is right Forum thread viewtopic.php?f=31&t=22300 Re: Building a Santorini 26 in the heart of victoria! 187Dec 09, 2009 11:16 am We also upgraded the underlay at recommendation the of the carpet man at M, have also been told by an independant carpet store not to bother with "good" carpet while kids are young but to use good underlay and you wont tell the difference!!!! I guess we'll have to see. __________________________ M3tr1con Denver 32...Now 43!!! All moved in & love it!!!! My local office had been rather good in mentioning the upgrade options (compared to hearing stories from others here) but this is definitely one they missed. Oh, I did nearly miss out on a shower niche until I mentioned it... How much was it to upgrade the underlay? Perhaps I could organise something directly with the carpet layers??? I went with the standard cut pile plush - the Sante Fe (in light brown). I understand that it isn't very hard wearing but it isn't being used in any high traffic areas and I liked the soft feel. I must admit when I was asked if I had anything in mind for my carpets, I simply replied I have no idea about carpets... Re: Building a Santorini 26 in the heart of victoria! 189Dec 10, 2009 10:49 am Sounds like carpet underlay is the go, wish we'd talked about it, was it expensive per square? We hardly have any carpet except for sleeping area, sitting and rumpus.. which I guess is a few places now that I have to list it. We went into our build yesterday, fair bit has been done, so who knows what will be done by next Monday when we go through officially... I'll have photos on my blog by tonight or tomorrow night hopefully. Otherwise might need to wait til next week. See how I go. Off to check everyone elses threads now. At that price maybe we didn't get the top upgrade I can't remember. Monkey we want pics tonight pleaseeeeeeee . Need to see other peoples progress Forum thread viewtopic.php?f=31&t=22300 Re: Building a Santorini 26 in the heart of victoria! 191Dec 11, 2009 2:58 pm hey guys, in regards to carpet underlay, their isnt much of a cost difference from the lowest to the highest grade....maximum of about $10 between crap to best per m2. I have been told this by a few carpet experts. So upgrade if you can! We are actually not doing our carpet with M...we are getting a better carpet for the same price M estimated for us with an external company. The down side, gotta do it after hand over. :/ but upside...better carpet! I've had to reformat... and hoping wife didn't have any photos on it... (sorry if your reading this and I haven't told you yet) We are going out there tonight for a complete inspection, but we went out briefly last night after a 'trip out of state' and found that the carpet was down, one downlight and faceplate left to be done, basins in but not connected to plumbing .. umm... what else? showers are finished up, our fridge space has been fixed, but needs retiling now and the same can be said about around the bath.. umm.. everything we were told except for cement being laid. so guessing that the plumber has to come through to install the HWS, complete a/c and heating installation, connect basins and toilets, water tank toilet system, install the rangehood. tilers come back and fix up spots next to fridge space and around bath then painters come through, sparky puts in our feature lights, cleaners and thats about it. then in comes the inspectors, which will be the 'interesting' part as not convinced that the roof tiles are right yet. anyway, will talk to ss and take photos again tonight and i will endeavor to put them on ASAP because there isn't much left... I've put the photos up but theres no comments or correct titles as yet... +Cement is getting laid yesterday or today +Gas and cool are going through this week connecting up heating and cooling vents +They have put in the wrong sized overhead cupboards in the kitchen, so they need to be replaced and they will most likely need to retile the entire kitchen work bench wall. +Plumbers will go through also this week to connect faucets, taps, toilets, etc So guessing HWS and water tanks will go in maybe next week, more than likely next year.. So makes me think it will be later than the 14th Jan to me. But SS thinks HWS and tanks will be in before they close up for the year, this would mean they could start the inspection process now and finish it in Jan. Its a wait and see, but I dont think we can guarantee the 14th, although we will need to advise our rental property will be vacant at the end of Jan 2010. ..mmmm...2010...scarey Builder: Me*tricon Homes Design: Freedom Range, Santorini 26 Handover Date: 12th February 2010 Homeone Thread: viewtopic.php?t=22216 Blogspot: http://www.evolvedmonkey-santorini26.blogspot.com Re: Building a Santorini 26 in the heart of victoria! 198Dec 16, 2009 4:33 pm WOW a date that is great. You must tell us how you went discussing your problems with the SS... You obviously have picked up some issues with the tiles... Your overhead cupboards look OK from the photo's - how are they the wrong size? You must tell us how you went discussing your problems with the SS... I have to admit that I left most of the talking to my wife, she pointed out the issues we had or that we thought werent right, I just organised to meet him out there and he let us in. He was a little mousey so we knew that not much must have been done. There was a few things done, but not everything he said that would be done. Unfortunately his answer to most things was 'tomorrow' or 'this week' for things that he had already said would be done weeks ago. But I guess the walkthrough was more for us, that he knew our concerns and what we would be looking at during the handover process. Up to him when he gets them done, just as long as they ARE done. So it was really a relaxed meeting. I guess we aren't pushing too hard at the moment because its not until they tell us that its done that we really need to be concerned that things arent done to what we 'think' is the right standard.
