Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Aug 17, 2009 9:23 pm My Fiancé and I are building the two storey Montego 344 By Coral Homes. We had looked at a few other builders including Metriconn (for some reason this blog blanks out the correct spelling of Metricon) and Plantation, but we chose to go with Coral due to their value for money. I started a blog a few months ago to bring everyone up to speed on the building progress. Our start date was Thursday 13th August, our site was cut the next day. I have included a link to my blog if you would like to follow it. http://twostoreycoralhome.blogspot.com/ Why do a blog? This will be our first house, one of the main reasons I'm putting this blog together is to try and help other people that are building their first home, after going through this process so far I know how big of a task this is and I understand that people could benefit from the help of others, so that’s what I hope to do. We also found it very hard to find any information on two storey Coral homes, the only two storey Coral homes were down in Sydney, this is too far to travel for many people. After doing a search on the internet, we couldn’t find any information. I would like to make it much easier for people to know what to expect from a two storey Coral home. I plan on putting up lots of photos to help people out if they are deciding to choose a Coral two storey house. . If you would like some more in depth information please follow this link to my blog http://twostoreycoralhome.blogspot.com/ November 2007:We put a deposit on our very first block of land. December 2007: Christmas Eve, we were approved for our loan. Best Christmas present ever. April 2008: Started looking around at houses. Looked very seriously at the New Haven by Metriconn. November 2008: Frequent staffing changes at Metriconn caused us to start the process about three times. We were mucked around too much, plus the base price increased by $30,000. December 2008: Fell in love with the Doulton from Plantation homes, despite much negotiation they wouldn't come over the border into NSW, even though they had a NSW licence. We then found the Montego from Coral homes and it was perfect for our needs plus was a way better price than any other builder. January 2009: We put our deposit down with Coral for the Montego 344. Feburary 2009: We wanted to copy they colour scheme of the Doulton from Plantation homes, they flat out refused to give us any info on any of the colours in the house, many other builders freely gave this info out to us. So we had to take colour books with us and match the colours this way. March 2009: Signed our contracts and paid the rest our our first payment. April 2009: Had our finishes appointment, we thought we had everything organised for this but were thrown a few questions we hadn't even though of. If anyone would like more info on the finishes apointment please let me know and I'll do a blog in it. May 2009: Council knocked back our plans due to a error that our sales rep had made. Site plan had to be re-drawn, signed off again and resubmited to council. Coral were going to charge us for this but didn't after we contested it, due to the error being made by the sales rep. June 2009: Longest month in history, nothing happened house wise, very annoying. July 2009: Our house was finally out of council, but were made to add 'zone one fire protection' due to the "bush" that was around us. Please refer to my blog about this as we believe this was completely unnecessary. August 2009: Start date was on my birthday, getting a construction key for my birthday was the best present ever. Site was cut the following day, the slab is due for the end of August. I turned up on the morning of the 13th Aug for my on site meeting. The first thing the site manager did was give me a key, it was such a surprise. As soon as I told my fiancé she went to the shops to pick up a special key ring just for the key. It was the first thing that made this experience feel real. . I had organised my parents to be on site today for the pour, they arrived on the block to find on one there. Seems bizarre that the slab-pourer-guy would call it off without talking to anyone - how frustrating! Congratulations on the site start though! We had the same start date as you, waiting on the slab pour - hopefully this week! Hope that slab is poured soon for you!! We're home!!! I'm sure your SS is also really cranky, because the concreter made him look stupid to for providing incorrect information (even though he didn't know that at the time, very disapointing ) have they rescheduled the pour? 2014 - Prepping to build the Soho 4 with Plantation homes, industrial style 2009 - Built the Brampton with Coral Homes viewtopic.php?f=31&t=15399&start=280 The price you're seeing for a high-spec 2-storey home in Perth sounds steep, but unfortunately, it's kind of the norm these… 8 7884 My land is 260m2 (10m x 26m) located in claymore NSW.
