Re: garage door colour 3Aug 16, 2009 9:09 am The mock-woodgrain finshes are certainly more expensive than a plain colorbond. I went to a local garage door company & they charge about $2,000 for woodgrain look. $600 sounds very reasonable to me. If I decide to go with colorbond I'd lean towards a colour that is close to the colour of the bricks. Re: garage door colour 4Aug 16, 2009 10:09 am $600 seems quite reasonable i think ours was $450 to get the colourgrain caoba here is a pic of ours.... we have it with monument gutters and fascia and magnum roof. Is costing us $578 to upgrade our original Colorbond door to a cedar look-alike. Same. It's a great site to play with colours and see what you like. Just in case you are still looking for other options.... buzz Re: garage door colour 9Aug 16, 2009 11:10 pm Hi, Don't really want to sound like a trouble maker but we chose that same garage door and didn't pay any more for it. We originally chose our door to be Jasper colour and then when we saw how good the caoba looked asked if we could change. Our builder is not really the type who wouldn't pass on an additional cost so I'm not convinced the builders pay any more for them. We chose plain 'planks' for our garage door (Jasper colour) at our prestart, and then discussed it that night, and decided that we really did want a patterned door (all in the normal specs). I phoned first thing the next morning, and the pre start girl said we couldn't change as we had already signed!! I think it is a major drawback working that way. I think the builder should let you do your full prestart and then let you go home that night, and bring back the signed document the next day (as long as the changes were not major involving major cost changes etc). Most of the choices we had were "do you want A or B", (in regards to taps, garage door etc). We also were not given a book of choices like some builders give out. We got a box file, with all sorts of brochures ... most which didn't even pertain to our level of build. They must just make one generic one for all. Was really difficult to know what we were going to be offered when we went to our prestart. Built the Driftwood with C*ollier Homes Moved in 8 November 2009 Slowly getting organised ..... Re: garage door colour 12Aug 23, 2009 8:42 pm yeah, I guess building with a private builder has been good in terms of flexibility. We have changed out minds on a few things at the last moment. It can work both ways though. Like when you decide that you prefer the look of the frameless shower screens and he says sure thing that will be 3 screens at an extra $1k each !! Since I posted on this topic last time I asked my builder if he pays any more for the timber look garage doors just out of interest and he said they are exactly the same price. Possibly the project builders get volume discounts on some of the more popular ranges or perhaps they are taking an opportunity...... they certainly look like they are more expensive !!
