Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Aug 14, 2009 9:16 pm I have tried searching online and in here for some info about gas vents. My large UGLY as sin gas vent (300mm x 300mm) has been located at one end of a large room in our house against the cornice, about 5m from our gas point. The room is about 8.5 x 6ish in total. I always thought they put a smallish vent (100mm x 100mm) directly above the point? I'm screwed either way as if they move it, it will automatically ruin the ceiling unless they replace the entire gyprock panel. But it already looks horrible... and I'm worried it won't remove the gas from the case of a leak? Does anyone know if it is correct or have others had large vents installed in their houses? *Built with Gemmill Homes in WA* Slab - 1st June 2009 Plate Height - 17th June 2009 Lock Up - 18th August 2009 PCI - 5th October 2009 Hand Over - 15th Oct 2009 https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=20844 Re: Gas Vent isn't close to Gas Point. 2Aug 19, 2009 11:09 am Manda My large UGLY as sin gas vent (300mm x 300mm) has been located at one end of a large room in our house against the cornice, about 5m from our gas point. We have the same in our newly built home (also in WA) ... have they painted the ceiling yet? You'll find that once the ceiling is painted it will almost disappear. We also have a vent on the wall almost on the other side of the room from the gas point .. no idea why it's so far away, I guess there's a reason Re: Gas Vent isn't close to Gas Point. 3Aug 19, 2009 11:23 am No painting yet. That is good to know that someone else has the same distance thing. Our wall vent is also near the vent and not so much teh gas point. The ceiling and plaster job is just so perfect it seemed to stand out. I'll hopefully forget about it when it is painted and hiding! *Built with Gemmill Homes in WA* Slab - 1st June 2009 Plate Height - 17th June 2009 Lock Up - 18th August 2009 PCI - 5th October 2009 Hand Over - 15th Oct 2009 https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=20844 Re: Gas Vent isn't close to Gas Point. 5Aug 19, 2009 9:38 pm Oh really? They haven't put that in yet :/ It is in our dining room under a low window. I'm going to have to think hard for a piece of furniture to go there... I was planning nothing but the dining table! Might have to get creative with the paint. Why are these things so large and ugly!!! I know they might save my life... but still can't they be small and cute! *Built with Gemmill Homes in WA* Slab - 1st June 2009 Plate Height - 17th June 2009 Lock Up - 18th August 2009 PCI - 5th October 2009 Hand Over - 15th Oct 2009 https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=20844 How do you remove one of these ceiling air con vents? And is it possible to disconnect the duct joined to the vent from inside the house, without going into the roof cavity? 0 5944 Building Standards; Getting It Right!
