Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Aug 13, 2009 5:39 pm Hi all, Sorry it may be a long intro - My name is Melissa and I thought it was time I made some homeone 'friends' of my own. My hubby has many (including our neighbour to be) in the area as he has a smart wiring company and has been a busy beaver installing in the area - every trip to woolworths takes twice as long as he loves to chat! We were looking around South Morang/Mernda for a block to build on, went to Cornells hill due the fibre optic network but continued up the road and loved Laurimar- we put our deposit on a block in the Briars Aug 08 and settled in June 09 - now we are waiting for our site start It took us a while and a few attempts/deposits to choose our home - we love the PD Illoura but due to the shape of our block it didn't work, looked at many others big and small builders - they all blur together, next was Metricon's Jasper and loved that but decided to do a custom build. We have designed our own home and can't wait to start - contracts signed last week, now waiting for the insurance and council so hopefully will start in about 4 weeks...... Can't wait to get chating and sharing with you all, and will upload plans etc soon Melissa Re: Building in Laurimar - hope to start in a few weeks!!!!! 2Aug 13, 2009 8:23 pm Hi Melissa, we're not building in your area, but welcome to the forum anyway! Looking forward to seeing your plans Re: Building in Laurimar - hope to start in a few weeks!!!!! 4Aug 13, 2009 9:42 pm Welcome ! We are also building in Laurimar, in the Maples. Look forward to seeing you plans. I am always interested in looking at the custom build plans. Blog is now up - http://www.jbdave.blogspot.com/ Re: Building in Laurimar - hope to start in a few weeks!!!!! 5Aug 14, 2009 8:59 pm Thankyou all for the warm welcome, Took the girls for a drive to the block today - seems next door's builders have decided to use our block as a dumping ground - we have a mound of dirt so have emailed our builder to make sure it wont delay us in any way. Another 3 site scrapes/plumbing have been done in the street but here we sit waiting, waiting, waiting - just noticed it's been 12 months since we put our deposit on the block - it seems like a lifetime for mrs no patience me - Will get on to uploading plans this weekend for you all to see and suggest on - it's wonderful having such a wealth of knowledge and opinions just a keyboard away. Melissa Re: Building in Laurimar - hope to start in a few weeks!!!!! 6Aug 15, 2009 9:54 pm Well that must be your other next door because it's definately not us! Still waiting as well...at this rate we will be the last in the loop to start... Re: Building in Laurimar - hope to start in a few weeks!!!!! 7Aug 15, 2009 10:44 pm Hi Melissa, hope everything goes smoothly for both you and Nathan... Yes he does like to talk!! he is installing my alarm system late next week so I will post some pics up of the install next w'end... I look forward to seeing your plan! Re: Building in Laurimar - hope to start in a few weeks!!!!! 8Aug 17, 2009 8:25 pm Hi Matt, Yep it's those 'other neighbours', the way the street is going up it's just going to be the 2 of us waiting. WBA - I tried to warn, maybe he should come with a sign ..... warning, worse than any women ...... he goes out on site to do a qoute saying he'll be an hour, yet I get surprised if he's back within 2!. He has met some lovely people though ( came back saying how nice you and your wife are not to mention the cute little fella) and so far everyone seems great in Laurimar. We haven't started to build, but have enrolled our 7yr old at the school for next year - met another person from our street on the tour, and the teachers were saying how community orientated the whole area is.... can't wait to move- need to start first though Have a good night, Melissa Re: Building in Laurimar - hope to start in a few weeks!!!!! 9Aug 17, 2009 8:43 pm Yep we've just enrolled our 7yo as well. I wonder if they will be in the same class. Im not expecting our house to be finished by the time school starts next year but at least it will save us a bit of time as it's closer than the school she is currently going to. When we finally move in I'll never have to drive again. Bus and train to work, walk to shops, walk to school, walk to friends and family, walk to parks and playgounds...seriously I cannot wait!!! Re: Building in Laurimar - hope to start in a few weeks!!!!! 10Aug 17, 2009 8:44 pm hi melissa, welcome. U sure will get lots of friends here. And I guess ur husband will be busier and busier. I can't wait either - have been buying for the house ( much to Nathan's cringing) so just need the house done!!!! I don't think dirty clothes will work..... I like my whites white, on the good side, I do get the peace and quite when he's out. The fastest thing a builder will do is bank your cheque, those systems work perfectly with lightning speed, everything else is slow burn. Just the way it is. 1 8702 Can someone please offer some advice? Im DESPERATE. Because I'm completely and utterly exhausted. How long are variations taking with other companies at the moment?
