Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Aug 12, 2009 11:25 am I need some advice, my better half states she doesn’t care (I know she will if I make the wrong choice) but I am at two minds as to what colour my garage door should be We have chosen Victorian Blue Bricks with white mortar. http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_R3pUuLWKWU8/SnLxlMwqooI/AAAAAAAAADU/DihcTRW60LQ/s1600-h/18+07+09_2554.JPG Our roof will be Monier Elebana Profile Sambuca Colour with our eaves, gutters & downpipes being Colorbond Monument. http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_R3pUuLWKWU8/SnLzVdlfjrI/AAAAAAAAADc/EILwmnzZqq4/s1600-h/MonierTiles.JPG Our window frames will be Ultra Silver which is very close to Colorbond Shale Grey and our Gable Background will be Shale Grey. Here is our front on elevation http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_R3pUuLWKWU8/SoIYJeboXhI/AAAAAAAAAFU/5S9xVTDhHck/s1600-h/Front_Elevation_modified.JPg Now originally I thought match the garage door with the windows and gable background and be Shale Grey but I am now thinking I should go a darker colour, either an Colorbond Ironside which will come close to the bricks or a Colorbond Monument to match the roof? I think our front door will be Shale Grey to match the window frames but as I said I am confused and the time for a final choice is approaching so any advice would be greatly appreciated. As for the driveway we plan to have the natural concrete look. If I change the garage door should I then go for a darker front door All this is starting to do my head in Blog: http://funmore-residence.blogspot.com/ Forum: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=21109 Construction Start - 19/09/09 Slab Poured - 21/10/09 Frame Completed - 25/11/09 Lockup - 22/12/09 Fixing - 22/02/10 Handover & Moved In 30/04/2010 Re: Colour Selection Dilemma 7Aug 12, 2009 2:15 pm SuH What does the door look like? the driveway? we are just having it as it comes, so grey I would say. edit: sorry I cant read just understood your post Blog: http://funmore-residence.blogspot.com/ Forum: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=21109 Construction Start - 19/09/09 Slab Poured - 21/10/09 Frame Completed - 25/11/09 Lockup - 22/12/09 Fixing - 22/02/10 Handover & Moved In 30/04/2010 Re: Colour Selection Dilemma 9Aug 12, 2009 4:16 pm SuH You could probably go either grey, but if it were me I would keep it strong and glossy or...or what about a white gloss door geez now I'm getting carried away Yes, so many options. The door will be a gloss paint and will have glass in it but we dont like the standard so we will probably change the style but I am thinking we could still do the shale grey, ooohhh is so diffiuclt and Mrs B is no help, she just says I dont care and then I say you will if it looks bad and she says yes and then I can blame you Blog: http://funmore-residence.blogspot.com/ Forum: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=21109 Construction Start - 19/09/09 Slab Poured - 21/10/09 Frame Completed - 25/11/09 Lockup - 22/12/09 Fixing - 22/02/10 Handover & Moved In 30/04/2010 Re: Colour Selection Dilemma 10Aug 12, 2009 4:19 pm maxyb SuH You could probably go either grey, but if it were me I would keep it strong and glossy or...or what about a white gloss door geez now I'm getting carried away Yes, so many options. Colour selections can be very stressful! Hi Doghouse, It was your blog and house that made me question my original decision, especially after seeing how light shale grey is. I managed to get more out of Mrs B last night and spoke with my parents who have built 3 times for themselves in the last 1o years as well as 4 developments and I think I have settled on a Ironstone garage door. and we are now looking at a reddish front door as a bit of a feature, what colour is your front door? I think that tying in the garage with the bricks works well - unless you want the garage to be a focal point! Our front door is stained Dark Oak. I think Red would be fantastic. I was going to suggest a strong colour rather than grey in my post and then forgot... It will be an upgrade so unless its thousands to upgrade the front door we will be changing from what is on our current plans Can I ask, is there any reason you went the natural mortar instead of white? Re the mortar, I just preferred the look of the grey mortar - less standout-ish if you know what I mean, sort of matched in with the bricks rather than separating them with a contrast colour. We got the addresses from Boral of a few places with Vic Blue and I liked it better. Just personal preference, white is lovely and crisp, just not what I wanted.
