Re: Need help urgently - rangehood venting in a double storey h 13Aug 12, 2009 10:21 am nh hi, overwhelmed, just wondering how did u go yesterday about this issue? hope everything is alright adn your ss is accormmodating. let us know nh When I talked to my SS at handover (March), they said that regulations required all new builds (not sure what date is considered new), must be vented to the outside. Re: Need help urgently - rangehood venting in a double storey h 14Aug 12, 2009 10:38 am hi, joeygbh thanks for that information, our one is surely new builds , so they should, isn't it? as u know, i am building a brookvale, would be insterested to know how yours is ducted outside, is it through the roof or between the ceiling and floors? love to hear from you - brookvale fans nh Re: Need help urgently - rangehood venting in a double storey h 15Aug 12, 2009 10:48 am nh hi, joeygbh thanks for that information, our one is surely new builds , so they should, isn't it? as u know, i am building a brookvale, would be insterested to know how yours is ducted outside, is it through the roof or between the ceiling and floors? love to hear from you - brookvale fans nh Ours is considered an old build (probably 1st or 2nd one built ever), and so I'm not even sure where it goes. I asked the SS and he had a look, but couldn't find the vent. I haven't had time to look at it myself, and when cooking, I can't really tell because those with the void design will know that the smell from kitchen goes easily every where... I believe it goes through the ducted vent area (near rear bedrooms) to the roof space but not completely outside. Re: Need help urgently - rangehood venting in a double storey h 16Aug 12, 2009 11:02 am joey i can't believe yours is considered an old build? how they logically make it plausible did u mean, your brookvale is 1st or 2nd being built by PD? sowe are all scapegoats? no wonder they forgot to put a waste pipe in for mine for a start?! mine handover 25th, so hoepfully they get things donw before that nh Re: Need help urgently - rangehood venting in a double storey h 17Aug 12, 2009 11:09 am Our SS wasn't at the inspection yesterday as something came up. And Big Kev was double booked, so he sent his side kick George who works for him. Very thorough guy. The bad news for us is that it wasn't in our tender or our construction drawings to provide for a flue vented exhaust system. PD just vent into the cavity between the floors as norm. And the same for the self sealing exhaust fan in the master ensuite apparently. It just gets vented into the ceiling space. That was what SS relayed to us on the phone and George wasn't too happy about that. He said that it should be vented out but the bad thing is...there isn't a law that says those should be flued. Nevertheless, he will still put it in his report advising that it should be done. Our bad luck is that we don't have a direct path to flue to the outside. The only way to do it now would be to build a bulkhead in the master ensuite that would enable this...but we have a tiber shower dumper that sort of blocking it. So the dumper might have to be shifted slightly. So it's a bit tricky as it involves quite a few tradies. We're obviously very upset about this but then angry that we hadn't found all this out at tender or contract and it seems too late to raise a PCV at this late stage without delaying a lot of things. We will try though. Please let me know how you go. Do you know if your master ensuite exhaust system is vented out? or is all that nice moist steamy air free to roam as well? George that it is a recipe for disaster as all that condensation will just get trapped in there and before long, the ceiling would start to warp and have mould problems. I'm worried and I don't know where to turn at this stage. Re: Need help urgently - rangehood venting in a double storey h 18Aug 12, 2009 11:41 am hi, overwhelmed i feel for you. as i am of the view it should all be vented outside, you might try adn call vcat or something so thay they can lead you so someone who knows this law. lots of people say it is illegal for a double storey to vent the fume in between roof space, so check it out. we put ours in the tender (i think), so hopefully that will give them some obligation to implement it. i do not know whether my master ensuite fans are just a decoration - not externally ducted - i will check this out today or tomorrow, there is something like a vent (external tin plate - a small square kind of) beign put in externally on the brick - externa wall on that master ensuite shower wall), but not sure that's for that. the ss told us that's for vent the ground floor ceiling, but didn't spbecifically say that's for master ensuite shower fan. i would think this shouldn't be too hard for you to do - measure where the fan is and distance towards the external wall, then knock a external brickk off and put some sort of vent there so to lead the moist out. (i am pretty sure that's how they put mine there) how do you think keep us posted nh Re: Need help urgently - rangehood venting in a double storey h 20Aug 12, 2009 11:51 am Hi nh plastering hasn't started yet. It's due to start next week. Technically they can still make it happen if they are willing to. Technically!!! But the willingness is the issue here. If we can find out that it's against regulations....then we can make them do it. If it is just our preference...or our misconception that it was going to get flued outside...then it's an issue. Oh..nh...I printed off the blanco installation manual for the rangehood...we're getting the SS canopy one.....and it says that pvc piping is not recommended. Do you have any pics of how yours was done?
