Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Aug 10, 2009 1:47 pm Our new house is almost at lock up stage and the carpenter is happy to put in noggins (sp) for us at this stage. We've asked for noggins for our towel rails and toilet roll holders in all bathrooms and powder room. A big noggin for our wall mounted dryer. And in walk in robes so that some clothing rails/hooks can be put up for clothing/robes/jeans that are in use. Have I missed anything? Re: Noggins - where do you wish you had put them??? 3Aug 10, 2009 4:38 pm I am having extra studs put in for TV wall mounting. I wouldnt trust a noggin with the weight of a big flat screen. If anything, having the extra noggins in the area will make things more difficult. Are noggins made up of anything else? same timber as the frame nice drillable pine... hmmmm Pine unless yu have a steel house then it is steel nogins but then it part of the wall itself and a bugger to rerto fit data cabling into..... actuallya bugger to fit cabling in regaurdless afaic Kodiak Data Cabling onFaceBook Consult*, Design and Installation Data, TV, Home Theatre/ AV Cabling, Multi Room Audio, IP CCTV and Door Intercoms Ask for a Quote. *DIY DATA Cabling Is Ilegal Re: Noggins - where do you wish you had put them??? 12Aug 19, 2009 9:38 pm Won't be long before our house is plastered, still have a couple of days but... is it too late to ask for extra noggins? Now i am worried if we haven't asked for noggins does that mean we won't be able to have towel rails or tv attached to the wall???? [i]We built in Point Cook and are loving our new house. Re: Noggins - where do you wish you had put them??? 13Aug 19, 2009 10:42 pm Get in there & do it yourselves with bits of frame ****** around your site. Just remember to nail them with the narrow faces facing up & down & the broad faces facing back & front IYKWIM. I knew I shouldn't have skipped carpentry class I screwed some extra noggings where we want to put more shelving and some heavy picture frames, I cut the pieces so they were nice and tight then drilled pilot holes diagonally at all 4 sides and started each screw, then put it in place and screwed with the drill, those noggings "ain't" going anywhere while I'm still kicking! you can use a stud finder later but make a note of where you put them, I put the ones in the garage at 2 mtr and made sure they were all perfectly straight with a spirit level, bit anal I know but "if a jobs worth doing"! Re: Noggins - where do you wish you had put them??? 16Aug 20, 2009 2:51 pm cyclone i used ply between studs, but i OB. Can you explain what you mean by that ? I'm a bit lost by the use of "ply between studs". We've just had our frames go up (studs and noggins) For the internal walls, I was thinking of pre-drilling through the noggins where I know I want to run some cable (tv, speakers etc...). I was even thinking of running some conduit (maybe some 20-30mm diameter stuff) through those pre-drilled holes so that I have something to guide my cables through.... although now that I think about it that might compromise the strength of the noggin in case anything is hung on it at a later date. Re: Noggins - where do you wish you had put them??? 17Aug 20, 2009 3:14 pm Thanks everyone for the good tips. We also put noggins where the patch panel will go and also in the loungeroom at picture rail height. Re: Noggins - where do you wish you had put them??? 19Aug 21, 2009 8:51 am Thanks everyone for the explanation. I haven't done it before and have no idea what the noggins should look like after it's screwed. Does anyone have pictures of what the noggins look like after installation? Would be fantastic if you could share some so we can do it over the weekend. [i]We built in Point Cook and are loving our new house.
