Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Aug 10, 2009 7:12 am Hi Folks,
Have been reading for a while, and can finally join in!! We are the proud owners of a lovely patch of land in NE Melbourne and have just signed up with a local custom builder to build our 2nd dream home. We built first time round, just a small house - pre kids. Absolutely loved the building process, and loved our first house. Unfortunately we outgrew it and found a block around the corner so sold up and are renting while we build. We are building in Nillumbik, so have a very specific building envelope and a long list of requirements to meet for our planning permit, hence the custom build. Just got plans back from the architect and are very pleased, so off to council we go (and then wait for around 6 months ) Now we are in the process of considering our options with finish. So will definitely be in here asking LOTS of questions!! What a great resource!! Talk soon Re: Can I join in now? 2Aug 10, 2009 7:16 am Welcome to the forum I can fully understand the 'growing out' of your first home. This is the reason we are building also. Any chance of posting a pic of your custom house plans? Re: Can I join in now? 16Sep 14, 2009 11:28 am Hi and welcome, I hope everything goes smoothly for your build. Looking forward to seeing your plans Blog: http://bluemistkids.blogspot.com "Never be afraid to try something new. Remember, amateurs built the ark, and professionals built the Titanic." Re: Can I join in now? 17Sep 14, 2009 7:50 pm Thanks Hels It is a slow process, as we are still at planning permit stage. We have spent around 6 months developing our plans and once we've finished writing our permit we hope to get the plans off to a draftsman to draw up the technical parts then find a builder to build within our budget. Long time reader, but new poster on the forum so have already found it an invaluable source of hints and ideas. Re: Can I join in now? 18Oct 20, 2009 11:59 am Sorry theveiw, I just discovered your post (we were away for a few weeks so missed a lot of posts). How are you going with your build? We got our plans in to Nillumbik, and are now waiting on advertising to end - fingers crossed! We are very happy with our builder, they are quite expensive but very good quality and we know them through friends. They only take on a few builds a year. Where in Nillumbik are you building? Re: Can I join in now? UPDATE... plans approved finally 19Feb 04, 2010 9:21 am Met with the builder last night, and council has finally approved our plans and we are hoping for a site start in about 6 weeks (so being the pessimist I am I am counting on an April start). His build time is 6 months, so fingers crossed we will be in by the end of the year. Getting very exciting now, will be doing our internal colours in the next few weeks. Woo hooo.... Re: Can I join in now? 20Feb 04, 2010 9:42 am Geez, I never realised how many people on here grew up in Nillumbik. I've been in Greensborough all my life, would have loved to stay in the area, but as others have mentioned its getting pricey. It is interesting, as there are a few blocks still vacant, and with the hills the builds are quite spectacular. Another welcome, and lets see those plans! Some people don't have time to do the job right the first time, but seem to have plenty of time to fix their mistakes. Build Thread Congratulations! Nice to put that to bed before christmas, now you can relax 3 7186 If so what were the "special circumstances" under which it was granted?
