I think you can get them for $100 each at Bunnings or less. OK you have to in stall them also, but $981. Have n,t you got a contract yet? How long has it been? Re: $981 for 3 whirleybirds?? 3Aug 10, 2009 12:46 am Were are (still trying ) to build with H3nl3y. We are now at our 2nd tender (or tender doc #4). It has been way too long, we were supposed to be at contract BEFORE June (thank god for the FHOG extension). I'm tempted to ask them if they are gold plated Re: $981 for 3 whirleybirds?? 4Aug 10, 2009 12:53 am Yes, I remember you really ended up better off by the delay & extention of the FHOG. However, Fruity it has been to long. Why? Do they over price everything? Put the birds in latter. Have you got colour bond roof? Re: $981 for 3 whirleybirds?? 6Aug 10, 2009 1:18 am I don't see the relationship between toilets with no external windows and whirleybirds. I have toilets without external windows, an yes they need external venting, but that's done by fans that lead to an outside wall. Demolition August 2009, Construction Started September 2009, Completed December 2010 Re: $981 for 3 whirleybirds?? 7Aug 10, 2009 1:23 am Hi Fruitty We are paying $366.00 for 1 (one) Colorbond Whirly Bird rotory roof vent, which should be colour matched to our roof. So......you have a bargain!!! You must have a large house to need three. Our house is 32sq and our builder (M3tricon) never suggested more than one. In the scheme of things this was the least of our problems. I hope you get your contracted sorted out soon. Lots of Luck Minna Re: $981 for 3 whirleybirds?? 8Aug 10, 2009 1:43 am So, you have 3 toilets with no windows. I'm with casa2 and I would think you could vent them into the roof space, I’m not 100% sure. Don’t you think its time to draw the line with the comedy company and tell them it’s now or never? You have been far too patient with them; they want a bit more of your money, that’s all. Tell them no, and you won’t be using the toilets if they need a whirlybird. I would love to hear what they say. KW……… “It's just as unpleasant to get more than you bargain for as to get less” George Bernard Shaw. Re: $981 for 3 whirleybirds?? 9Aug 10, 2009 7:34 am Look I know everyone needs to make a profit.. but that just robbery, plain and simple. I'm a roof plumber and you shouldn't be paying anymore than $150 supply and install. Any one off the street can pick a colourbond whirlybird up from bunnings for around $75. They take 15 minutes to install, so there is NO reason they should be charging a lazy $700 labour for 45 minutes work. I'd also only be putting in one of them, there is simply no need for anymore than that unless you have "U" or "L" shaped roof.(or split level) good luck... Yes its to much. I think you can get them for $100 each at Bunnings or less. OK you have to in stall them also, but $981. Have n,t you got a contract yet? How long has it been? KW......... $90 each to be exact, saw them yesterday at BUNNINGS. Re: $981 for 3 whirleybirds?? 13Aug 10, 2009 1:00 pm After reading posts here about there effectiveness at cooling the house I've decided not to have them at all. Saves me a bit of money. Re: $981 for 3 whirleybirds?? 14Aug 10, 2009 8:21 pm Thank you everyone for your replies & support. We have a standard 28sq house / roof, only 2 toilets one without a window and one with a window. Therefore there only needs to be 1 whirley bird (if there is a need at all). The reason for having the whirley birds was not our choice, it was included as standard as part of our previous tender (a whole long saga by itself...). We did not know the exact 'cost' of the birds in the previous tender / quote as it was not itemised. I have question the cost (and many other items) but have no reply as yet. I will try to get only 1 put in or do them ourselves after hand over. We would have walk away but stand to lose the $32k grant as there is no possibility of another builder getting things done before Sep (originaly June!) to qualify for the grant We have got to the stage of just wanting to get the damn thing built and is willing to overlook most things On the bright side we sort of have one win on getting approval for some non standard windows (we might not keep this if they come back with some outrages pricing) I will keep everyone posted of the outcome. Re: $981 for 3 whirleybirds?? 15Aug 18, 2009 2:26 pm We received the updated tender today, now we have 2 whirlybirds instead of 3, price has come down to $654 ($327 each still a rip off). We had some wins on other items therefore cannot be bother with fighting this one Re: $981 for 3 whirleybirds?? 16Aug 18, 2009 3:27 pm When you say 2nd tender...do you mean you are actually having a meeting each time? Stuff that! Just tell them to email you the updated tender documents and you will sign them and send them back when they are correct. Re: $981 for 3 whirleybirds?? 18Aug 18, 2009 10:02 pm fruitty Were are (still trying ) to build with H3nl3y. We are now at our 2nd tender (or tender doc #4). It has been way too long, we were supposed to be at contract BEFORE June (thank god for the FHOG extension). I'm tempted to ask them if they are gold plated fruitty - same builder as you, I even haven't got the correct final drawing though site has started. Very tiring... Re: $981 for 3 whirleybirds?? 20Aug 18, 2009 10:36 pm Ari When you say 2nd tender...do you mean you are actually having a meeting each time? Stuff that! Just tell them to email you the updated tender documents and you will sign them and send them back when they are correct. We had 2 official tender meet up, 1 quick meet up and countless emails back and forward. Without being able to email it will definitely take till next year to get anywhere. 3win, not a good thing to hear. I've written a strong email to the sales rep threatening to cancel the whole thing (no commission for him) unless he escalate things. He promised to investigate the stuff ups but have not heard back from him yet. Our tender is mostly correct now (except the overcharge pricing). We are preparing the next fight @ contract stage. |
