Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Aug 05, 2009 5:48 pm Can anyone help enlighten me about the difference between coloured through concrete and concrete that gets coloured on the top only? I understand the coloured through is more expensive but I'm not fussed about the cost. I understand that with a stencilled driveway, if they do the colour on top then the pattern of the stencil will be a different colour (pale) and stand out a lot more What are the pro's and con's? First, if the concrete cracks or chips they aren't as noticeable and second, we wanted the stencil pattern to be the same colour as the rest of the driveway and not have the two tone effect. We paid $65 sqm. I guess it comes down to personal choice about whether you want the pattern the same colour or not. Not me I don't think that all concreters charge the same amount. We had quotes differing by as much as $15.00 sqm. As with everything else it pays to get a few quotes and see what is reasonable. My guy charged the same for stencil and stamped, others charged way more for stamped. Re: Types of coloured concrete 6Aug 05, 2009 11:17 pm Yep. So does that mean I paid the right price and didn't get over charged? One quote I had for the same colour and same stencil was $85 sqm - big difference most of them were around $80sqm Happy at Home Re: Types of coloured concrete 7Aug 05, 2009 11:21 pm No point in saying anything But you could ring cemex or mentone and ask for a price on black concrete per CU mtr, I think you might be surprised But that is all I will say. Onc_Artisan Thanks. Bit late for me as we had ours done back in Jan/Feb but might be useful for Lisanne and others who still need to get this done. Thanks Happy at Home Re: Types of coloured concrete 9Aug 06, 2009 8:21 am All I would do is ask for the quote to be splilt into materials and labour. I like your reasons, I'm also really worried that with all the mud on the street that the lighter coloured lines will get marked and not be able to clean it off. I'm getting another quote today so I will see what they say And thanks Onc too 'A bottle of wine contains more philosophy than all the books in the world.' Louis Pasteur Vegie garden: viewtopic.php?f=19&t=27637&start=0 My Backyard Adventure Re: Types of coloured concrete 12Aug 06, 2009 3:22 pm Stencilled concrete is where they lay concrete and then place a stencil over the top and spray/trowel on a colour over the top of the stencil to give the two tone effect (or all the one colour as a PP has). Stamped is where the concrete is poured and then it is stamped with something to give a more textured finished, with deeper ridges and grooves than stencilled concrete. Sorry I don't know a whole lot about stamping, my husband is a concretor but refuses to do stamping, too fiddly. As far as the two tone getting dirty, well you really need to 'seal' coloured concrete anyway to prevent fading, and this needs to be redone every few years, so even if you did get dirt on the concrete, it should be quite easy to clean off because of the sealer. I hope this helps Re: Types of coloured concrete 14Aug 06, 2009 4:06 pm Not as far as I know Though if not cured correctly anything can happen. Contraction joints are at 3m max for a 125 slab. Thanks 0 10947 |
