Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Aug 04, 2009 9:48 am Howdy, So at the moment, we're trying to work exactly what we can afford to do, and getting the most out of our smallish plan (looking at 10,.3 or 11 sq only). I think I've work out that a wall seperating the meals/family area and the formal lounge can be moved forward to create larger "study" rather then a formal lounge (we've got one of those at the moment, and we use it like a study). Other then that I'd swap two cupboards to the doors on the opposite side (so one is in the bathroom, rather then one a random wall, and the other is the walk in robe in bdr three). How much do you think that will add to the pricing? I don't think that the changes are major, but I'm also not sure what major changes are? So maybe they are. I know for us we are were told once preliminary contract is signed we cannot make changes. If we do its $1000 (each structural change), they are for structural only. For the extra wall, i would say around $700 from past experience, moving the room may be around $1.5k depends on work involved and also depends where the roof line is. But overall, if you do the changes now, you will save money in the longer term. We built our 1st house and after we moved in wanted to change a couple of things structurally and we wish we had done it at the time of building! All the best!! Re: Changing the plans, how much $$? 3Aug 04, 2009 10:34 am Lots of houses are built around 300mm iincrements. This is because timber, steel, gyprock, frames etc are in 300mm sizes lengths and widths ie 450mm centres, 2 give 900mm The less you have to cut is time saving Onc_Artisan Where you are coming from is where you are going to...
