Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Aug 03, 2009 12:09 am Hi everyone I'm hoping someone can help me with this topic as I am utterly confused and Google/Bing have been little or no help! Is there such a thing as "acrylic render" or is it simply: a) cement render with an added acrylic component; or b) cement render which is then covered in an "acrylic texture coating"?? I have found a number of articles and websites which seem to suggest one or both of these; and some that refer to a "render" which has no cement base at all. I need to make a decision fairly quickly regarding render for the house I am owner building and want to be sure I'm going the right way! One thing all the research I've done seems to say is that "acrylic render" or "acrylic coatings" are a more long-lasting, effective way to go if you're rendering and that in the long run it's a worthwhile way to go. I'm not planning on selling this house, so I'd rather spend a bit more up front to get a better finish I've also come across a few different products like "Rockcote" and "Dulux Acratex", but again it's not clear what the difference/similarities are! Basically, I want to know if I should first cement render my house then look for an appropriate acrylic coating; or if there is something out there which does it in one process (i.e. an acrylic render). Sorry for the long-winded post, but if anyone has any ideas, I'd really appreciate it!! Thank heaps Adam Re: "Acrylic render" or cement render with "acrylic coating"??? 2Aug 03, 2009 10:28 pm I hope I can be of a tiny amount of assistance. My house is being rendered in something called unitex render. Our builder has given us a 25yr structual and color fade guarantee. I looked up unitex render on google and also found very little information. They have put a cement base render on my house so far... still waiting to see what happens next! *Built with Gemmill Homes in WA* Slab - 1st June 2009 Plate Height - 17th June 2009 Lock Up - 18th August 2009 PCI - 5th October 2009 Hand Over - 15th Oct 2009 https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=20844 Re: "Acrylic render" or cement render with "acrylic coating"??? 3Aug 04, 2009 8:13 am Manda I hope I can be of a tiny amount of assistance. Thanks Manda I had a look at their website and from what I could gather, it's a cement render with a polymer/acrylic added to it to reinforce it and make it less prone to cracking...i think! haha Either way, with a 25yr structural and colour fade guarantee, sounds like you'll be ok!
