Re: What electrical things did you think of/added/wish you had? 2Aug 01, 2009 9:56 pm I was pretty boring and just added an extra tv point in my room, but I did consider adding another fan in the spare room and kind of wished I had, but it was a bit more at the time then I was expecting. Re: What electrical things did you think of/added/wish you had? 3Aug 01, 2009 9:58 pm lights outside to light up every part of the back yard with a spotlight! Powerpoints on the benches and if it's an island maybe on the end under the bench height Think of where you will need them for: * Vacuuming * lamps * alarm clocks in all bedrooms *tv points in all bedrooms * how many power points do you need for your tv setup? Tv, PVR, VCR, DVD, lamps, Stereo etc etc * power points outside for christmas lights? *telephone point and power point for internet - I'm getting a phone and PP in my pantry for my adsl and wireless so it's hidden * If you have a bench in the laundry - a power point at bench height * outdoor power points - don't forget one for a water tank pump! * PP's in garage! * don't forget the PP in the ceiling for the heater! * bathroom benches - one at either end if it's a double sink * are you going to have mirrored cabinets in the bathroom to store things? do you want a PP in there for toothbrush, hairdryer etc? * lights out the front - do you want them on the garage pillars? etc etc soooooooooooo many things! Re: What electrical things did you think of/added/wish you had? 5Aug 02, 2009 12:05 am Oh the usual, more power points in several rooms etc but what I really wish I'd done was put light switches near the door that turned on lamps plugged into power points near the lounge and in the bedrooms. ....does that make sense? So when you walked in the room you could turn on a lamp instead of an overhead light. In addition to the overhead lights too though... May one day get that wired in after the fact..if possible. Re: What electrical things did you think of/added/wish you had? 7Aug 02, 2009 4:41 pm I am having heaters installed into the ceiling in the outdoor pavillion area, as well as ceiling fans, a gas point built in for natural gas to the BBQ and a TV point put outside as well. Also having lights that switch on/off automatically in all WIR's and pantry (NOT sensors) with door movement. Also.....can't think at the moment. I know I have inlcuded all outside lighting and covered all areas with power points - including the pantry. Re: What electrical things did you think of/added/wish you had? 9Aug 02, 2009 6:39 pm I wouldn't stress too much if you forget anything... At frame stage, my electrician charged me $37.80 (no GST, cash) to add a double power point and then when I decided at the last minute that I needed another double power point, $50 (no GST, cash) which was at the electrical fit out (fitting lights etc). So plaster etc was already up. I can only add I think in the outer walls and one to the other side of the wall of an existing one. I really am going to have to have another go at this building caper one day, I so want to get it all right next time. Re: What electrical things did you think of/added/wish you had? 11Aug 02, 2009 7:16 pm There were many electrical things that I would have loved to add but when on a budget we had to know when to stop, the main ones that I would have really loved to have are little LED lights all through the corridors of the house and funky colored LED lights lighting up the backyard. We might be able to add them later on, if we really want to! Re: What electrical things did you think of/added/wish you had? 12Aug 02, 2009 8:40 pm I am a bit worried atm that we havent paid enough attention to electricals, I haven't got any downlights, just a few extra power points in the master, on the island bench, in the pantry, where we'll put the phone and near tv's. we also got a tv point in the master bedroom. We were trying to stick to budget but I looked at some displays with a friend today & (especially after seeing the theatre in the Carlisle display ) I wish we'd thought of more. Things I'd like to do are: downlights in the entry/hallway, theatre and living area and alfresco light in pantry tv points in all bedrooms does anyone know if it's possible to add these later & how difficult/expensive it would be? I don't really want to be ripping out my new plaster & repainting. I also need to look into what's required to set up the theatre (fancy powerpoints etc) and also to have a wireless internet connection throughout the house. I went into their forum but they don't appear to be speaking english... Those of you who have double doors in to rooms, where did you put light switches? Inside the bedroom/room or outside? We are having bi-folds to the HT room. As such we put the light switch outside of the room so we don't have to walk in the dark trying to find the light switch. We also made it two-way with the other switch located near the back wall so we can turn it off or on without having to walk out of the room Re: What electrical things did you think of/added/wish you had? 14Aug 02, 2009 9:51 pm Extra lights in the theatre room, especially if you are going to paint the walls and ceilings dark colours. Power points in all rooms, including linen, to run chargers for handy vac etc. Another alarm control pad in the master bedroom. Panic alarm in emergency, or wake up the children on Sunday mornings Extra powerpoints in theatre room. If mounting projector make sure the vent for heating/cooling won't be in the way. Plus powerpoint for ceiling too if running projector. Extra powerpoints in garage. Re: What electrical things did you think of/added/wish you had? 15Aug 03, 2009 1:26 pm My husband thinks now (after finishing) we should add - a double powerpoint in the broom cupboard for charging dustbusters - a heap more powerpoints in his garage - another double powerpoint beside each bed - a double powerpoint in my walk in robe Fi has moved in!! Re: What electrical things did you think of/added/wish you had? 16Aug 03, 2009 2:46 pm Hijacking this thread a little but attached is my electrical plan. Any comments are welcome. I think I would add more lights to the entry.

I added double PP's half way up the wall as I am wall mounting a TV in the theatre room and in the master bedroom. I also added lights down the side of the house as this will be where the washing line will be. I added extra PP's in all the bedroom and have about 100 PP's spaced around the kitchen! (exaggeration gets the point across! ) I also moved the gas point (they provided one as standard) to the alfresco area so that I can use it for the BBQ or outdoor heater and I added a double PP in the alfresco. Added PP's to the garage and tv points to theatre, family, bedrm1 and bedroom2/study. Added extra light fittings to garage pillars for those pretty up/down lights! I repositioned all the existing lights as I will be putting in downlights after handover and didnt want to patch up holes where I have taken lights out. And I moved a few light switched around so that they were closer to doorways. I also put in a few conduits - For example I'll be putting in those 3-in-1 heat lights in my mathrooms so I ran a spare conduit to each. Also I measured the length of my vaccum cleaner cord and put a power point in the corridor that would enable me to vaccum the whole back of the house without unplugging the vaccum. I then worked out where to put a point in the front hallway so I can do the whole of the house at the front. So I only have to unplug the vaccum once and I can do the whole house. The rental we are in is so small that I don't have to unplug the vaccum at all !! No. It's not original.
