Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Size of kids room 2Jul 31, 2009 10:51 am I think that is is fine. Our minor bedrooms are all 3.5 x 3.5 however their robes and ensuite are completely separate from this measurement. We have plenty of room for a bed, bedside chest & either a desk or large chest of drawers in each. Some things are worth waiting for. Re: Size of kids room 3Jul 31, 2009 10:53 am In my opinion, the absolute minimum room size should be 3.1 x 3.3, excluding robes. In my opinion, with rooms this size, a spare room would be best to be used as a play room. Your room size will finish 3.6 x 3.6 after the robe is taken out, which is a good size for a kids room. The kids rooms in my new house are all about 3.6 to 3.8 long, and about 3.2 to 3.4 wide. If the kids going are going to stay in that room through their teens, I wouldn't go any smaller (unless your struggling for space).
Draw up a 3 x 3 or 3 x 3.6 room, and sketch in the things you would put in their room. If you think there won't be enough floor space (even going into their teens), then increase the room size until it feels right. PS. Those sizes are according to most of the volume builders we deal with. Re: Size of kids room 6Jul 31, 2009 10:55 am There is a discussion on bedroom sizes here. But I think yours are a good size. viewtopic.php?f=1&t=8100&hilit= I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Blog is now up - http://www.jbdave.blogspot.com/ Re: Size of kids room 8Jul 31, 2009 12:49 pm Heaps of space I think. Ours will be 3 x 3.3m (not including wardrobe m/ment). We are planning to use loft style beds for them, so they can use the space underneath. Also all clothes stored in the wardrobe, so no need for space for drawers. Will be more space than they have now, and there are no complaints. For me, too much space around me when I sleep gives me the creeps. I would be happy sleeping in a cupboard. I would think that you could fit everything into the space you are planning, with no worries at all. buzz Re: Size of kids room 9Jul 31, 2009 2:17 pm Our two share a room 3.5 x 4m now and it is a good size. They share a bunkers lowline bunk-bed along one wall which gives them plenty of space to do their thing. All their toys (bar the outside ones) are in their room. With 2 single beds I imagine they would spill over and out into the rest of the house, but with the bunks they have more floor room and they keep their mess to themselves. Re: Size of kids room 10Jul 31, 2009 2:18 pm I think the size of your minor rooms will be great. Ours arn't big, but not small either... They are as follows: Measurements NOT including the BIR's Kids bedroom 1: 3.4 x 3.5 Kids bedroom 2: 3.3 x 2.9 Kids bedroom 3: 3.5 x 3.4 Kids bedroom 4: 3.5 x 3.4 Kids bedroom 5: 3.7 x 2.9 Measurements INCLUDING BIR's Kids bedroom 1: 4.0 x 3.5 Kids bedroom 2: 3.3 x 3.5 Kids bedroom 3: 3.5 x 4.0 Kids bedroom 4: 3.5 x 4.0 Kids bedroom 5: 3.7 x 3.5 Hope this helps. Re: Size of kids room 11Jul 31, 2009 2:29 pm our rooms are 3.48 by 3.0 and i think that it is a fair sized room. like you said your kids are still little, it will seem enormous to them wait untill they're 14 We do have a large kids retreat so that helps. Al & Caitie- Building the Hamilton 278 (Coral) at Narangba Re: Size of kids room 12Jul 31, 2009 2:46 pm I think too that it makes a massive difference if they also have their toys in with them. All of our kidlets' toys are kept in the dedicated "toy room" - which means the only thing in their rooms is their furniture. They pretty much only have their nightime cuddly doll each in their room when they go to bed. My friend from baby group came over the other day and said how different it was when there was no toys in the room (and that it sure made being sent to your room when you are naughty sink in that it was actually punishment rather then a chance to play by yourself). Some things are worth waiting for. Re: Size of kids room 13Jul 31, 2009 3:04 pm Our daughters room is 3.1w x 5.4 and we find it is not wide enough for a desk, bedside and king single bed. Although the length is good, we have 2 doors (she has an ensuite) and large windows, which reduces the wall space. IMO just be careful about door placement and you should be fine. Another option is to put a small study desk in the BIR. Re: Size of kids room 14Aug 01, 2009 9:42 am We have the bunker single bed, will get the rest of it later when we need it. I plan to have the kids share one room when they are little, the other room they can keep their toys in, i always wanted them to share a room, as long as they want to.
