They take about 20 seconds to fully warm up, and after that they give a very pleasant, even daylight effect. We have 15 of them in a room 11 x 5.5 metres but I think we could have done well with less. Compared to halogens the light is cooler and more diffuse. Actually I'm very impressed at how evenly the light is distributed. The lights are less bright than halogens if you look at them directly, but I would say they distribute the same amount of light in the room overall.
