Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jul 30, 2009 9:04 pm Hi there We are looking at building with NBG - their double storey Vaucluse. We wanted to add another bedroom upstairs & make some changes to the downstairs plan (have space for a home office & small gym). I wondered if anyone else was looking at building this home, and if they had variations/ideas for plan changes? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! Re: NBG - Vaucluse ... anyone else? 2Jul 30, 2009 10:43 pm If your not already aware, NBG is a national network of local builders.. So basically its a tacky scheme for people to build with small and local builders. There are plenty of double storey floorplans out there - larger builders - and youll have more peace of mind and reliability than having to go through an unknown builder.. I personally despise and particularly hate NBG's facades and floorplans. On paper and in their ads, NBG looks shocking and horrendous, theres NO WAY Ill be visiting their displays..... Is there anyone who is building a double storey with NBG? Re: NBG - Vaucluse ... anyone else? 4Jul 31, 2009 2:02 pm Hmmmm S&P, harsh, but OH SO TRUE! I have to agree with everything you said abouy NBG, after we looked into building with them and done some research there was no way I was going ahead with NBG. GS If you do go ahead with NBG, I wish you the best of luck and I hope you have a spare 18 months up your sleeve as this is how long they generally take to complete their homes. To answer your original question, there are two people on here that I am aware of "brittany" and "Mel", you could try a search on the "buckingham" and see how you go. Re: NBG - Vaucluse ... anyone else? 5Jul 31, 2009 2:34 pm Hi Greensnake, I am in the process of signing contracts with NBG. I paid my initial $1000 deposit in late Jan and it has taken 6 months so far and we haven't even started building. If it weren't for the fact that the Buckingham is the only house plan that we have found to suit our corner block and for the price we probably wouldn't have continued with the saga. Saying that I am hoping that from here on things will be a little bit smoother. HOPEFULLY!!!! So far we have had nothing but a positive experience and the local builder we have been allocated has been great to date. I for one am happy for some of my cash to go to local business and tradies. It is early days with the actual build but everything has been very smooth and well organised so far. Tradies have been on site nearly every day (yes, I often go past the site whilst out and about at work and casually 'drive past' for a quick look ). good luck Re: NBG - Vaucluse ... anyone else? 7Jul 31, 2009 9:03 pm Hi Green Snake, We paid lots of money to put a balcony on top of our alfresco of the buckingham. We wanted the balcony because we have a view and the buckingham was the best floor plan we liked and NBG were willing to make any modifications we liked. The other criteria we wanted for our floorplan was a downstairs bedroom with it's own ensuite. We paid for a lot of upgrades (or made do without) as they weren't included in the package then. Now I drool over the Vacluse floor plan - balcony and bedroom as required. Reality though is that it is too wide for our block. Even the buckingham was too big and we had to remove 500mm from the centre. Yes there are NBG detractors on this website and yes my house took some time to build. That said I love my house and found the whole building experience quite enjoyable and not that stressful. Yes it does come down to the builder you get assigned. There are loads of people who are building with NBG in this forum. Listen to the people who are building with them. The Vacluse is a massive floor plan - we have so much space it is amazing. That said I wish I had another room for my study! Fi has moved in!! A survey must’ve completed by a certified surveyor. This form part of every DA requirement 3 223474 Wish you all the best.
