Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jul 29, 2009 4:35 pm Could someone help us with discoloration of our bricks? Why is it happening and why only mostly under the windows? Seems like when it rains, the water runs down the window on the bricks. And that is the area which is getting discolored kinda yellow orangy tint. Is it permanent? Anyone had similar experience? Spoke with SS, and his response was that bricks change color due to sun and water. I was amazed as its been only there for 2 months. Dont you think it seems to early to have your house discolored, considering paying quite a bit of money for your house? Handover soon, should we accept the house as it is with discolored bricks or is there anything that we can do? Will have a look tonight, but I dont remember seeing any colour changes in mine. I do know we have some lighter and darker shades throughout, but not to the extreme that you have in the picture. Cheers Re: Brick discoloration Austral nougat 3Jul 29, 2009 5:37 pm We have Austral Nougat too and had the same thing happen, it is a result of some acid of some sort or similar. Ask your builder to put a neutralising agent on it, it worked for us and we don't have any more green spots My karma ran over your dogma Re: Brick discoloration Austral nougat 4Jul 30, 2009 9:44 am Hi guys, @ Haywgl, We will see what our SS says in regards to this once we have a walk thru. @mattdls, we also have light and dark color bricks. But we dont mind those. Its just the color thats bothering me. Re: Brick discoloration Austral nougat 5Jul 30, 2009 10:39 am They look like vanadium stains. Have a look on Austral's website about brick cleaning, scroll down to vanadium stains. Like others have said...a neutralising process can be used to get remove it. I will be using the same brick for our build. Interestingly I noticed that H3nley have recently put up a sign on their Nougat brick display stating that neutralizing charges are extra, so I guess it is a pretty common problem.
