Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Feb 22, 2010 11:28 am Anyone familiar with BigM designs has seen the Master Bed layout that has a WIR behind a false wall that is open at both ends. It's great for hiding the WIR, however since the wardrobe usually has doors (hinged or sliding) we're wondering whether we should change this: 1. Leave the wall as is: http://i831.photobucket.com/albums/zz23 ... ption2.jpg 2. Just remove the wall competely. There is plenty of wall space to move the bed against another wall; or http://i831.photobucket.com/albums/zz23 ... ption1.jpg 3. Keep the false wall, but close it off at the far end so the only access is at the same end as the ensuite. (Access to WIR is still from the bedroom, not the ensuite!) We were then thinking of putting a small recess for a dressing table along the wall between the WIR and ensuite. http://i831.photobucket.com/albums/zz23 ... ption3.jpg As usual, your valuable opinions will be appreciated!!!! Re: False wall or not fasle wall - what would you do? 2Feb 22, 2010 11:33 am hey, I like the 3rd option. I have seen the 58 house in person. It is awesome except it has sooooo many upgrades, when i asked the as displayed price she said around $800k. Whatttt ??::: Where are you building? Re: False wall or not fasle wall - what would you do? 3Feb 22, 2010 11:51 am Hello. We're building Lindrum 52 in Sandhurst. The bedroom in question will be our daughters room so leaving the wall will hide the mess of her wardrobes! The Lindrum 58 is huge, but 52 is still big. We've kept upgrades as reasonable as possible because the 'as displayed' price was way out of our league. Those bricks alone are a $40K upgrade! Re: False wall or not fasle wall - what would you do? 4Feb 22, 2010 12:01 pm Hey I LOVE option 3 if your daughter is anything like our 2 a WIR to hide the mess is the best idea ever!!!! The study nook is a great idea also. I love the Lindrum floor plan it is awesome. Good luck! __________________________ M3tr1con Denver 32...Now 43!!! All moved in & love it!!!! I'd personally leave it as is. Access from both sides of the bed is really nice. We have a similar setup for our wardrobe. We actually extended the wardrobe further into the bedroom to create storage space on both sides of the walkway. We will be adding nicer looking cabinetry to either end where you can see into the robe space, possibly a dressing table at one end and a desk at the other... Re: False wall or not fasle wall - what would you do? 6Feb 22, 2010 12:14 pm Thanks for all your suggestions so far! Re: False wall or not fasle wall - what would you do? 7Feb 22, 2010 12:43 pm We were thinking this as well. I like the study option but I really liked the Sycamore display in Keysborough. they had it open from both sides and the wardrobe along the wall (like in all the options) but the false wall made it really nice. On the false wall facing the wardrobe, they put a large mirror, some draws and shelves and the like to make it a nice dresser. And on the other side of the false wall they wall mounted a tv and had the bed against the wall opposite teh false wall. Wow hard to describe but I think that display pretty much made me decide my master bedroom (and possibly my daughter's room) layout. I think the desk idea is smart for my daughter's room though. Sorry if it doesn't make sense but I would recommend you check it out as I loved it! Re: False wall or not fasle wall - what would you do? 8Feb 22, 2010 3:17 pm Thanks Pravvy. We really liked the Sycamore and especially the master bedroom layout too. It made really good use of the wall in front of the WIR. Re: False wall or not fasle wall - what would you do? 9Feb 22, 2010 3:26 pm I like it the way it is too - we are building a house with the robe like that and our robe has mirrored doors - because we are having dark carpets and a dark feature wall - having it open on both ends with the mirrored doors will brighten up our room when the natural light hits the doors - but that is the look that we like Sleven Moved into our Atlantique MkII 36 by Carlisle Homes Re: False wall or not fasle wall - what would you do? 10Feb 23, 2010 8:31 am I probably should have mentioned, the room in question isn't the master bedroom. It's a guest room, although we decied to make it our daughters bedroom. It's laid out like many of BigM's master bedrooms with the WIR behind a false wall, but not as large as a master bedroom. Re: False wall or not fasle wall - what would you do? 11Mar 04, 2010 6:38 pm Hello there, You are building a massive home Congratulations!! I would leave the design as it is and the reasoning: Big M people take a lot of pride in what they do; especially the design team. How I know it because I have spoken to them…. If they have come up with something it is backed up by practicality, visually appeal et cetera. Also, it is good to differentiate between nice to have, essential to have, much of muchness.....I leave the rest for you to decide…. Bought in Nov 21 at the height of the market (classic).
