Browse Forums Building A New House Re: How long does it take to build a new home? 21May 27, 2007 12:12 pm Yikes - just goes to show that just as we have to put-up with 'trouble-builders', they have to put-up with 'trouble-clients'.
Perth Euro - I have been reading your blog - it doesn't allow anonymous comments and I havent got a blog account, but I thought this web-link may help with your plastering question from 25/5 - http://www.waspa.com.au/body/waspaspecs1.pdf October seems like a long time away - thats a 5-month 'lock-up' period - I am hoping for the standard 8-12 weeks but wont know until it happens (Ventura won't tell us until then). Regards P1T Re: How long does it take to build a new home? 22May 27, 2007 5:53 pm Thanks P1T, i have now changed the settings to allow anom posts.
Also checking out the waspa site - so thanks. Didnt get a pic of the ventura house today, but the garage wall looks the scariest.. its on single brick and you can see thru all the holes!! Now theyd wanna make sure they match the mortar correctly. I hopelockup is not 5 months either... hopefully thats worse case senario Re: How long does it take to build a new home? 23May 28, 2007 8:19 am They're big bricks. They look double height and double width. Is that the standard in Perth?
It seems petty to make the builder change all those bricks. I guess it's one of those hard decisions. Do you put up with something that you're not happy with, and live with forever, or bite the bullet and make the builder fix it. I'd rather live with the slight colour variation rather weaken the wall by pulling out individual bricks. You'd never get a good mortar bed in there. Re: How long does it take to build a new home? 24May 28, 2007 10:22 am I agree totally.
Yep they are two course high bricks. Same width tho. Quite a few homes built with them over here, but not the standard. Re: How long does it take to build a new home? 25May 28, 2007 4:47 pm Wow Perth_Euro they must be really fussy! I'm actually suprised that Ventura is replacing them as I always thought that with bricks you pretty much have to put up with a bit of variation! Oh well, each to their own!
P1T - love the Southern Diva - actually like you I love most of the Ventura Displays - they are a bit different without being too different! Did you get the special Essa Stone upgrade promotion or did that come after you signed? The Tangalooma was still open in Busselton when we went down for Easter - it was the first time we had seen it so was way to late to change our minds but luckily we loved it! Re: How long does it take to build a new home? 26May 28, 2007 4:56 pm that Tangalooma is a very nice looking house!! Re: How long does it take to build a new home? 27May 28, 2007 5:41 pm No we didn't get the Essa Stone or the free Blanco upgrade- did you?
We purchased in June 06 - before they bought in the $8000 bonus upgrade ... but then; also before the prices rose by about $8000 as well - funny that! ... Would of liked the solid/stone bench - but in the end we got the exact bench that is in the Southern Diva (style and laminate) and we are pretty happy with that - also payed the extra for the Blanco appliances. Was (and still am) a bit unsure about how much dirt would get trapped in the crevice of the under-slung sink Re: How long does it take to build a new home? 28May 28, 2007 10:32 pm Hi
P1T - yeah we got the free Essa stone upgrade but I'm sure free just means it has been incorporated into the price already! Though can't complain at all with Ventura's prices - we added over 50 sqm to the display home (it was only a 3 bedroom) so we added another bedroom, games room and acticity room and it was less than $15K. I'm also a bit unsure about the underslung sink...the interior designer Maria (did you see her?) assured me all would be OK...she even talked me into having a much darker kitchen than I anticipated but they had it on display in the pre-start room and I loved it so fingers crossed!!! I love your kitchen colours (just had a look on the website...ours are very similar! Perth_Euro - thanks for the compliment re. the Tangalooma. I am a big fan of your place The Sanctuary but a bit biased because we are living in pretty much that exact same design now but when we built it was called the Ocean Vista. Just read your blog about not being able to have floating floors in the living area because of the large area....that's strange because we have floating floors here and never encountered any problems - they are laid from front of the house to back rather than side to side if that makes any sense!!! Congratulations 29May 28, 2007 10:55 pm Hi PerthEuro
Looks like your house it moving along well now and my congratulations to you and your wife on your wedding on the 6th May! Was the plan to be in the new place before hand or is all on track per the plans? Best regards Re: How long does it take to build a new home? 30May 29, 2007 11:28 am Thanks BB
Plans were to get married before house was finished. Wanted to get that cost out of the way so when we move into house we are not saving for wedding. Perthgirl that does make sense about the floating floor. Do you have any pics of how it looks in your house? and i finally took some piccies of the house nearby that is having some cosmetic surgery. Entry: Kitchen: Family/Meals: Re: How long does it take to build a new home? 33May 29, 2007 6:54 pm I am building with AllCastle in Sydney and in the contract it's stated it will take them 32 weeks to build a 2 storey brick veneer house ........
Why such a huge difference??? Cheers Allan http://building-our-first-house.blogspot.com/ Re: How long does it take to build a new home? 34May 30, 2007 6:12 am Allan - maybe the builder & staff is spread too thin at the moment? Though with the current slump Sydney is in - they may just state 32 wks in the contract - just to give them some slack time in case of delays or bad weather. Re: How long does it take to build a new home? 35May 30, 2007 11:41 pm perthgirl Here Perth-Euro - a few pictures to show of the floating floor - excuse my photography skills and the mess - I have a 2 year old boy running around - that says it all!! Thanks heaps for that. That looks really good!!. We are catching up with the flooring guy on sat so will ask the q again!! Re: How long does it take to build a new home? 36Jun 01, 2007 5:16 pm Building a custom 2 storey house with a private builder in Adelaide. They allowed for 9 months in the contract and we're just about into our 10th month now Hopefully should be in there by the 22nd of June or so. Only skirting boards, outside painting and tiling to go. Re: How long does it take to build a new home? 37Jun 02, 2007 12:54 pm Hi Double07
Who are you building with? im currently getting qoutes to build 2 custom homes.. Re: How long does it take to build a new home? 40Jun 12, 2007 10:37 am we are in qld we are building with perry homes we gave them there deposit to start soil etc in early dec 3 months to do this and then other 900 for plans in late april 9 weeks for this and then last week 700 for afflent report and now we are waiting for the contract two weeks already then we have to wait another 2 to 4weeks for the bank to release the deposit. So far we have been waiting 6 months and our plans are not into council yet.they donot tell you about this wait time Sorry but you have a crap builder. Probably too late now. For our last build I only spoke to builders who would allow me easy access (at no cost). I used my own sparky… 10 9839 Hi Mofflepop, I would recommend finding a building designer to prepare plans, they should design to your specified budget. The benefit is you can tender the project out… 9 20433 Can anyone recommend a good/affordable retaining wall and fence builder that I can get a quote from located in Sydney? 8 45838 |
