Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jul 28, 2009 6:39 pm Hello all, I'm Richie and, well, l I thought I'd start a thread on my first ever home that I'm buying and building. Lots of scary stuff has been happening over the last few months, and I think this thread will keep me honest and ensure I keep a good check on whats happening. I'm building in Maddington, WA in a new, very limited land release (only about 26 blocks in a fairly old area). Settlement went through yesterday on the land, hooray! I'm building with Affordable Living and the house design is "The Bally's" three bedroom (I'll upload a plan soon! It's not on their site). It's a typical 3 bedroom 2 bathroom home with an open plan living room and kitchen. Nothing swank, but this isn't my dream home, just somewhere nice to live and to get me into the market. Cut a long story short, I only moved out of my parents 12 months ago and already totally sick of renting! I'm doing this on my own accord, no friends, family or partner involved, its all about me baby Chosen roof is colourbond with a limestone 2C brick. I've stressed about the floor coverings, the roof colour, the window frame colour, the front door colour, the blinds, everything. Being a male, mixing colours was very, very hard to do *nods*. I took a female friend with me to the tiling shop so hopefully we have some sort of colour coordination inside the house! I've gone mainly with beigey type colours, trying to stay as neutral as possible. Dramas thus far? The only one has been the siteworks. I provisioned $20,000 for siteworks (Maddington for those who don't know is on the scarp in the eastern suburbs of Perth, known to be a bit clay ridden). Siteworks came back at $26,000 but the builder agreed to let me have their June promo (I'd already received the March promo!) and reduces the costs of the extra $6k, and I sacrificed my $4000 allowance for a Solar Hot Water System and stuck with the builders range storage gas system. Everything is sailing along smoothly, waiting on approval from City of Gosnells for my building licence, and once we have that, we're off and racing! Will update with some pictures once construction begins!
