Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jul 25, 2009 5:13 pm hi Guys Im going to build in alamanda with m3tricon, quated me $3310 for smart wiring . The national lifstyle staff told me even though i got smart wire i still need to have data point and TV point which she quoted me $134 for each , is that necessary? i read some posts here ,many of you with other builders were quoted for around $1700, dont really understand why so much difference and the staff there can't give me answer . im really confused right now . anyone can give suggestion? m3tricon give me another option is to provide provision for smart wire but charge me $770 for that Should i take this one ? the following is the Telstra smart community cabling package * (1No) Star Serve mid size cabinet. * (1No) 3 in and 8 out TV amplified splitter. * (1No) Data patch panel. * (1No) 4 line phone patch panel. * (1No) RG6 from Star Serve to below meter box. * (1No) 6 core security cable to meter box. * (3No) Cat 5E from Star Serve to below meter box. * (1No) RG6 TV point to Family room. * (1No) RG6 Pay TV point to Family room. * (1No) Cat 5E phone point to Family Pay TV point. * (1No) Cat 5E phone point to Kitchen/Meals area. * (3No) Single power points. * B&R meter box (CSV022102) as temporary/permanent with 16mm mains, RCD, 2 socket outlets and up to 12 metres underground in lieu of standard meter box. * Optical fibre lead-in cable connection to Optical Network Termination (ONT). Yes, it is nessesary. With the smart wire, a fibre optic cable will come into the house from the street carrying foxtel, internet and phone. It is split up in the cabinet which usually is put in the garage. From here, the services will run through the house as normal. So when your purchasing a data/phone point, it will run from the location you choose back to the cabinet. The $770 looks pretty good, I think it has everything you need, however your only getting TV to the family room and 1 phone/data point in the kitchen. Will this be enough? I guess you could choose the $770 and pay the $134 per point where you need it. A cabler will be able to add points in the future if required. Just bear in mind how much spare capacity the system has with the TV/Data and Phone points as if you run out, you will need to buy more hardware. Re: re:smart wire /optic fibre 4Jul 26, 2009 10:26 pm Hi I'm getting the exact same smart wiring pack with M3tricon as the one Dida posted (the 3 thousand one), wasn't given the option of the $770 one. I am also confused with the whole smart wiring thing. On my contract plans the family room phone point does not include a data point...I had to buy those at $134 each! Re: re:smart wire /optic fibre 5Jul 26, 2009 10:37 pm For a pretty good explanation on wiring choices, goto this website http://www.telstra.com.au/smartcommunit ... wners.html Then under Telstra Velocity Network there is a link to a pdf. This might help a little? Also, this thread viewtopic.php?f=34&t=15270 Re: re:smart wire /optic fibre 6Jul 26, 2009 11:18 pm twistie HI ! We're building in Alamanda with Porter Davis. Their smart wiring package was $2300 and includes four points with data/tv/foxtel/phone throughout the house. for $2300 via me people get a heck of alot more then 4 points. tis truely scarey how badly you guys are getting ripped off Kodiak Data Cabling onFaceBook Consult*, Design and Installation Data, TV, Home Theatre/ AV Cabling, Multi Room Audio, IP CCTV and Door Intercoms Ask for a Quote. *DIY DATA Cabling Is Ilegal Re: re:smart wire /optic fibre 7Jul 27, 2009 10:50 am It looks to me that the package only include internal smart wiring/points and the hub/starserve Does the package include a lead in from the fibre (from the street) to the house? My builder was not doing it for me and i couldn’t find anyone to do it during construction, and therefore i have to do it after handover and this cost 740 (should cost less if i can get it done during construction)… Blog - http://clageonewhouse.blogspot.com/ Building Thread - viewtopic.php?f=31&t=10886&hilit=milan I am in, with my husband and my beautiful bunny Re: re:smart wire /optic fibre 8Jul 27, 2009 11:35 am Quote: Does the package include a lead in from the fibre (from the street) to the house?
