Can anyone tell me how much their 3 phase power cost?
I was quoted $660, now they are saying it is actually $1500,
because the standard specifications are 8 meters and I needed 19 meters.
A rough quote from a sparkie would be awesome!!!!!

Re: Cost of 3 phase power 3Jul 25, 2009 2:24 pm mine was about $900 after building the buildier wanted to charge $1700. finished building 40 square home on 5 acres with perry homes.working on the landscaping just finished pool deck with ://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=2217 Re: Cost of 3 phase power 5Jul 25, 2009 4:41 pm My builder in Brisbane includes "3-phase power connection" in the base price of all their houses. http://www.mccarthyhomes.com.au/others-extras-our-standard.php Re: Cost of 3 phase power 6Jul 25, 2009 5:19 pm Rinny M are charging us $1950. Gee how many meters away from the power pole are you? Re: Cost of 3 phase power 8Jul 26, 2009 7:20 am Just get sparky to put in a pull cord so that they can pull through extra wires when needed, or just put in extra wires but not connect them (the wire is cheap and should only cost a couple of hundred bucks) Re: Cost of 3 phase power 9Jul 26, 2009 2:23 pm Kristi $495.. but I'm thinking about taking it out of contract, as unsure at to when we would need it? i got told it was a good idea for air conditioners, but since actually looking into aircond they make pretty powerful ones single phase, so in hindsight I dont really need 3 phase Re: Cost of 3 phase power 10Jul 26, 2009 3:15 pm if u need 3phase power then get it from the start, putting wires in for future connection is good in theory but u will be doubling up on electrical inspectors fee and the power companys fee, as well as electricians. Most homes only need single phase. Re: Cost of 3 phase power 11Jul 26, 2009 6:32 pm 3 phase can also be necessary if you are a fair distance away from the power pole apparently. Our home is close to 80m away from the road so 3 phase was necessary. Plus it meant that we could have a more powerful ducted system - plus a 3 phase outlet in the garage for things like Mig welders. Some things are worth waiting for. Re: Cost of 3 phase power 12Jul 26, 2009 9:06 pm Hi all ours was $165 through henleys. with a 16 mtr run. Ask builder for a breakdown of cost? Meterbox should be no extra for std box with approx 16 slots extra should only be for cable and conduit. Network suppliers do not charge extra for meter install and also ask for them to set up peak /off peak as your meter will have this provision this then allows you to change from a flat rate tariff to a peak / off peak tariff as like myself we run our 3 phase A/C unit over weekends alot during summer and power in less than half price at these times. Re: Cost of 3 phase power 13Jul 27, 2009 8:26 am Ours was close to 6k but it was a 100m run. And it doesn't depend on length from the connection! You can have a single phase connection of 10 km if the cable is sized right! Meter box could be different depending on if you have tariff 11, 31, 33... Firstly, there is the connection to the utitiliy... Then the cable is more costly... Then the circuit breakers are more costly... Wiring does take a little longer as you must share the loading across the 3 phases, which means circuit seperation... Get 3 phase upfront... 3 phase machines are much more efficient than single phase... Just take a look at Air Conditioners... For the same cooling output from a single to 3 phase, the 3 phase will have a much smaller input power requirement... Electrical Engineer... Don't hold that against me... And keen owner builder... Mainly the building part!! Re: Cost of 3 phase power 17Jul 27, 2009 10:42 pm chuth77 Depends on so many factors... And it doesn't depend on length from the connection! One 3 phase main switch +$20 wiring lights to one phase and power outlets to other costs no extra to do, even if you were to use 2x safety switches which is std in Henleys homes cost would be +$50 and most network suppliers in Vic do not charge extra for 3 phase connection i had mine done through agility and a friend through citipower both no extra charge get abreakdown as some of these prices are a joke Re: Cost of 3 phase power 18Jul 28, 2009 7:42 am kassan1973 One 3 phase main switch +$20 wiring lights to one phase and power outlets to other costs no extra to do, even if you were to use 2x safety switches which is std in Henleys homes cost would be +$50 and most network suppliers in Vic do not charge extra for 3 phase connection i had mine done through agility and a friend through citipower both no extra charge get abreakdown as some of these prices are a joke Single Phase to 3 phase Main Switch - Is actually +$50... Lights should be wired across a number of phases, and not loaded onto just one phase... + $20 per breaker Same with Power Outlets... So add additional circuit breakers... + $20 per breaker Add additional cabling due to load sharing requirements... 50 metres... $50... Figure in additional manhours for design and documentation of system calculations as required by Australian Standards, and installation time... $200 for 2 hours total... 2 Safety switches are standard on all homes... It's required by law... So for a 3rd safety switch... + $100 for the 3rd switch... Cabling into the house... 16mm Single Phase - $7 per metre, or 16mm 3 Phase $18 per metre... Conduit Size may have to be bigger also to accomdate the 3 phase cabling... The may have also gone to a larger switchboard to accomadate the increased capacity... Probably something like a 36 pole board instead of a standard 11 or 14 pole... + $100 Given the above numbers, I'd allow for a typical house $640... That's before any additional work, such as air conditioners, pool pumps etc are done! Electrical Engineer... Don't hold that against me... And keen owner builder... Mainly the building part!!
