I did get an explanation, only after I demanded one & it all appears to make sense, apart frpm the variation margin but it makes you wonder sometimes hw thye calculate costs Dollar Excellent going MaxyB. House is coming along superbly visually. We are about a month away too. House is a pig-sty at the moment packing and throwing away junk. We are lucky most of our stuff is in storage so our in-laws place is ok. I imagine a few more trips to the salvos will be required once we start unpacking. At least a month is not long comparred to when we started. Well the fit off is well underway and I have already noticed some “issues” which I have escalated to the Construction Manager via head office. I have decided to document my issues so that they can’t complain I have not given them fair warning I expect these issues dealt with prior to handover. The plumber has finished, apart from the gas cooktop and hot water service and to date I cant fault his workmanship. The tiler has done a wonderful job and the painter apart from not being able to read a colour selection chart has done on the whole a good job. The AirCon guy apart from stuffing up one outlet has also done a good job. I have a bulge in the plaster wall in the garage & I would expect that it will be fixed, surely a bulging wall is not “commercially acceptable” I have discovered this term “commercially acceptable” and the cynic in me says it’s a ******* clause used by builders to get away with ** work. Now I should give my builder the benefit of the doubt as this issue was only discovered by me on Saturday so they still have time to fix it and they have not come to me and said they wouldn’t so time will tell. One trade I am not happy with is the sparkie. The exterior power point for the water tank pump is ** and the way they have connected the phone line to the Telstra box is just plain unacceptable. In my email to the builder I stated that I believed it was the work of an unsupervised 1st year apprentice, surely a fully qualified tradesman wouldn’t be proud of that kind of work. Do you think the toilet is bigger than the one in the display? I thought the ones in the display were tiny and I just paid Alan a visit on Saturday as Ryan likes the carpet in the display so I went to have a look to copy and I was looking at the toilets and I thought they dont look normal sized but yours do so maybe they are using different ones now? Also I love that outlet thing in the sink like they have in hotels is that standard too? And dont worry I plan to be just as picky! I need to be cos Ryan is more desparate to get out of here (the in-laws for him!) than I am so he is more likely to accept small mistakes just to get in a week earlier or something I know he is counting down days to contract end now but I think you need to bring up issues asap before handover otherwise after you move in they might be able to blame them on you and not fix them. Who knows what it will be like after handover after you dont owe them any money anymore? 4 more sleeps to PCI! As this is all quickly coming to an end now I cant wait to see your house all finished and I must say thank you for your help! It has been so benificial for us watching your blog and your house grow as mine follows in its footsteps... We are unsure of the process of the PCI and handover and it will be great to hear about your experience. So a huge Thank you to MaxyB! Kel Building in Mooroolbark! Kel Thanks Kel, I am always happy to pass on "learnings" from the build process but dont discount what you can find on H1, its been a great source of info for me. The toilets are tiny but look good. they are only 3 star with water but only use 4.5 litres on a full flush I would hate to think how many times you would need to flush a 5 star if in the event, well you know what I mean I have not talked to Adrian this week, I plan to call him tomorow to see when our inspection will be. I suspect it wont be until Tuesday next week after the carpet is laid. I have worded up my bank manager and he is confident that if I fax the authority through on the 21st the final cheque can be in my hands by the 29th allowing an early handover on the 30th I will keep you posted on how things go Dollar Excellent stiff MaxyB! At one stage it looked like we were not going to make it & I seriously considered delaying our move in date & I still may do that except now I am a lot more comfortable and confident that it will all work out. We had our Project Completion Inspection (PCI) today and while it might have been a little early we needed to do it now so I could get the ball rolling with the bank. I must say I am very pleased and most of my issues are very minor, a touch of paint here a fly screen required there. There are some big ticket items still missing like a driveway, hot water service, Air/Con vent, security doors, fly wire screens, insulation, oven, gas hot plates, range hood but all up there are 37 big & little items. My SS has told me to come around again next Tuesday to see the finished result. I suspect Wednesday and since I will only be able to make it first thing in the morning I will suggest Wednesday the 28th . Below are some pictures of the house taken over the last week & there are more on my blog.
