Browse Forums Building A New House Re: What did you pick first? Colour selections. 21Jul 23, 2009 4:50 pm The only thing I knew for sure I wanted was the Nougat benchtop and mostly white cupboards. Then we picked the tiles, vanity colours, paint colour, blind colours, and the carpet last. That sounds so easy did I leave something out! Re: What did you pick first? Colour selections. 22Jul 23, 2009 6:54 pm In the past I have always found a feature tile with colour in that I liked then got everything else to go with that, and it all came together easily. This time I picked the cupboard doors as I wanted something that was not as dark as classic beige and not as yellow as new antique white, so I picked wilsonart wallaby. Well what a headache! it was so hard to match up tiles with this colour as everything looked too yellow or too pink when looking at the ivory coloured tiles and as I didnt have white anywhere (except the ceiling) I couldnt bring that in as it didnt look right with wallaby. In the tile shop they recomended picking the floor tile first then it would have been easier to find a kitchen colour, so I dont know if this is right or not. Thats why once I found a tile that went with it I used it everywhere I really couldnt be stuffed starting again looking for wall tiles Most of the time I would say if something jumps out at you and you fall in love with it then start off with that and go from there, you could end up with an easy run or be like I was this time Know where your going in life............... you may already be there Re: What did you pick first? Colour selections. 23Jul 24, 2009 12:30 am We went off the floor tile....at first we had a light peachy one (looks better than it sounds, lol) but found it soo incredibaly hard to match carpet with it so we ditched it and went for a beigy one. From that we chose the carpet, then the wall paint seeing these three things would make up the vast majority of colour in the home. Re: What did you pick first? Colour selections. 24Jul 24, 2009 6:00 am I wish my OH didnt want to pick he made it impossible and the more tile shops we go to the more i find i worry about the choices we made. we still have not have final splashback or feature entry 100% decided. problem is we live in a small town and could pick our tiles from 2 shops but as we have to buy things over allowance like features we go to the city see nice stuff that we cant have. Anyway tiles have been picked and payed for so i guess i should stop worrying. Re: What did you pick first? Colour selections. 25Jul 29, 2009 1:18 am I’m struggling with the tiles and colours also. I’m OK with what I chosen but the girl called me to ask if I was ready to sign off on it. I said I need a bit more time. I think it is a really important part of your home. As we may or may not be able to have much say in the construction aspect of the home we should work hard to make it look and feel great on the inside. The WOW factor as you open the front door. It’s a week or 2 of stress but I find the more I look at and play round with them the easier it gets. Go to some displays or open houses on the week end. You will see some homes with the same old patterns & colours, like one person worked as the colour consultant for all the project builders in the estate. Put the time in, man, I know the girls at the tile shop by first name now lol. If you are nice to them and kindly ask for their advice they will give you some tiles to take home. I’ve nearly got enough to do a small bathroom for free. Lol. As to the paint the girl told me to get a sample pot $8.00 and paint 1 meter of plaster (off cut) to get a true idea of the colour in all light conditions. Anyway just sharing a few ideas. Colour selections. 26Jul 29, 2009 8:30 am Everything will have to fit around my kitchen choices. I have a specific style and colour theme in mind for a kitchen and that will dictate the rest of the colours choices etc. Re: What did you pick first? Colour selections. 27Jul 29, 2009 8:45 am Most of my selections have been based around our main floor area tile and also our kitchen colours. I knew I wanted an all white kitchen so i've been making most other selections trying to go with more warmer selections so as to not look so stark. With regards to the exterior I knew I wanted the Surfmist roof and a Jarrah timber garage door so I picked my render colour based on that and worked my way around it. Re: What did you pick first? Colour selections. 28Jul 29, 2009 8:40 pm hi, i remember reading on a 'colour' website somewhere that its more pleasing on the eye if the floor is a dark colour then work upwards getting lighter in colour. But when it comes down to the nitty gritty YOU have to live in it so YOU have to like it! When i originally started thinking about my new house (thats still stuck in pre-construction stage, DOH!!!) i originally chose a red glass splashback to go with my black marble benchtops&white cupboards, which i absolutely LUUURVE the look of now but maybe i wont if i want to change the look of my kitchen/dining area (it's not that easy to match other colours with bright red). So instead i chose "platinum" glass splashback (a dark speckledy silvery black type of colour). Then i thought about accenting the kitchen with a bright red retro kettle/toaster/clock/etc. If i get sick of the red down the track then maybe blue ones or yellow(or if i have any $$ left over at the end of my build i can have every appliance in every colour and change from week to week or mood to mood........ I"M DREAMING AGAIN!!) Anyway, have fun!! Issy You may still have a case, but your next step is to speak to a lawyer. 3 1638 How much are you ahead in payments compared to where the build is at? Have you fully drawn down the loan? 5 11933 No the fireplace doesn’t work. It’s been enclosed. I’m not sure what was removed, as it was done quite some time ago - well before what I can see with photos online… 2 11588 |
