Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jul 21, 2009 7:32 pm Was just wondering how long is the normal wait to go into council. Not talking about council, just the time from you handing over your deposit to the builder submitting the plans. We have now been waiting four months and were told it should be in within the next 4-6 weeks. That will be close to six months from deposit to council. Is this the norm or do I have reason to be feeling like pulling the pin on the whole deal. So that's 6 months. There have been some delays. Each change seems to take a long time. Eg mirror the plan due to existing retaining wall issues, problems with amount of cut required from first engineering report (which needed a completely new engineering report because we added a split in garage), back to engineering due to mistakes... Had none of these changes been needed it would have been submitted 2-3 months ago. We almost pulled the plug 2 months ago as well. Four weeks later the first plans were ready for viewing, made our changes to them and waited another six weeks for the new plans. Were happy with the new plans so said yep, send them in. Then was told they had lost some paper work ect so went back in and got it sorted. Was told last night that plans should be in council within the next four to six weeks. Due to waiting for Basix ect. Was just wondering if this is normal. Re: This might be a dumb question but I have to ask 8Jul 21, 2009 10:21 pm lwbjl when were your contracts signed??? Wow..Andronicus ... Thanks lw http://buildingfraser251withcoral.blogspot.com/ Lol, providing that type of advice would be Nathanp, No it's not normal, but it does happen. As a lot of people will attest, you need to push builders quite a bit during the initial paper work stages so a phone call every couple of days is a good method.
