Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jul 19, 2009 3:26 pm Hi there, We have been charged $5K for temporary fencing in our site costs. Our land frontage is 15.5m wide and we are building with M. We have already signed the contract and have commenced buidling, but now think this is super expensive. What prompted this thought is that our side fence fell over, so M asked us to pay for additional temporary fencing to cover approx 10m, which cost $200. I'm now thinking, how can the 10m side fence cost $200, yet the front which is only slightly wider cost $5,000? What do you think? How much have they charged you for your temporary fencing? Re: How much for temporary fencing in your site cost? Mine $5K 2Jul 19, 2009 3:35 pm Thats expensive! So how many metres of fence do you have all up and for how many months is it being hired? What company is the temp fence from too? I m going owner builder and have called A LOT of places for temp fencing..I pretty much know every going price for them and it varies immensely (but it is not even close to $5000) The major builders bulk up the cost to make profits from it...hiring it yorself is heaps cheaper but that's the way business works. Re: How much for temporary fencing in your site cost? Mine $5K 3Jul 19, 2009 3:39 pm Temporary fence is $520 in our contract. Although, our front and sides are already fenced off, so it's just along one side. Approx 20m? Love kristi Living the dream. 4 horsey acres in the country. What's the next project??? Re: How much for temporary fencing in your site cost? Mine $5K 4Jul 19, 2009 3:40 pm $0.00! We don't need it! $5k seems a tad expensive. Well the frontage of the land is 15.5m, so including say an extra meter on each side, I'd say there is approx 18m of fencing. Our contract build time is 13mths. Hmmmmm.....maybe it was supposed to cost $500 and they've added an extra 0... The fencing company they used is ATF. Do you know how much they would charge directly? Re: How much for temporary fencing in your site cost? Mine $5K 6Jul 19, 2009 3:58 pm wow! Id check that price if I were you. You only have a little bit of fence..I need 92 metres for the whole block. ATF charges between 1000-2000 (thats for the 92 metres I enquired about over 12 months) so would have been less for you I am sure. There is no way ur fence alone is 5000 as you dnt have much and its not for a very long period. Double check with them asap!! Re: How much for temporary fencing in your site cost? I'll get an equivalent quote directly through ATF and see what they say. Re: How much for temporary fencing in your site cost? Mine $5K 8Jul 19, 2009 5:06 pm On a side note. None of the houses in Perth/WA are fenced when being built. Is it a safety law over east? I think it is probably a good idea, our house is being built in a street full of children and I'd hate to see them play in our house and get hurt. It would also be unfair to charge so much for a fench required by law? *Built with Gemmill Homes in WA* Slab - 1st June 2009 Plate Height - 17th June 2009 Lock Up - 18th August 2009 PCI - 5th October 2009 Hand Over - 15th Oct 2009 https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=20844 Re: How much for temporary fencing in your site cost? Mine $5K 9Jul 19, 2009 5:16 pm We have to have temp fencing in Vic for any new building works. Its good because it keeps ppl out and it also works as a safety measure. But the prices are reasonanble usually..they are never 5000. I think there might have been an error in Rinny's contract (you would hope)! Re: How much for temporary fencing in your site cost? Mine $5K 11Jul 19, 2009 5:21 pm I hope its gold plated temporary fencing. At that price you might as well fence all the way around with permanent colorbond fencing. Re: How much for temporary fencing in your site cost? Mine $5K 13Jul 19, 2009 6:22 pm Hi Rinny, M is charging us around $1400 for 3 sides (nearly 100m). We plan to put the permanent fencing up on the sides, leaving only the front for temp fencing. They will give us a credit back for the temp fencing that is not required, but there will be a minimum charge to the value of 30m. $5000 seems bizarre to me. Hope you get a fat credit back - that'd be a nice surprise! We're home!!! Mine $5K 14Jul 19, 2009 6:30 pm My temp fencing is $1,810 (including crossover protection). That's for a block 25.5m x 66m. 5k has to be a mistake, that is bloody ridiculous. Mine $5K 16Jul 19, 2009 7:29 pm I paid $302.50 for 3 months during and after our demo. It was for approx 17 metres of fence. I then got charged an extra $55 for a 'damaged' panel when a branch fell on it when the excavator was removing a tree As stated in our contract it's a Council regulation for temp fencing to be installed for the duration of the building works. Total cost $398. So just over $700 for approx 17 metres for 'roughly' 12 months. $5000 is just insane for 15.5 metres! I'd say there is definitely and extra '0' on the end of that figure... I also wrote another thread on my extra long 13mth building contract... ....seems I am getting screwed over in many regards in my contract. I am building the Nelson 43 with M. Yes it is a double story house...but the contract length seems longer than everyone elses!! Re: How much for temporary fencing in your site cost? Mine $5K 19Jul 19, 2009 7:56 pm Temporary fencing should cost around $1.20 to $1.50 per metre per month to hire from a temporary fencing supplier (on a contract - the most would be $3 or so on a week by week basis). For $5000 you could almost buy the fence panels that would cover the perimeter of your site ! Blog is now up - http://www.jbdave.blogspot.com/ Re: How much for temporary fencing in your site cost?
