Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Increase garage size vs. backyard shed 6May 23, 2007 10:26 am Hello,
We increased our garage size and DH loves it. We also still had room for a small shed just for stuff like the lawn mower and wheelbarrow and shovels etc. DH tinkers in the garage. He's trying to build a windmill at the moment that generates electricity......... I juts leave him be with that one! Re: Increase garage size vs. backyard shed 7May 23, 2007 10:56 am hi mynewhome - how much did you increase it by? and what did the builder charge? Re: Increase garage size vs. backyard shed 8May 23, 2007 11:38 am Umm I'm not sure exactly, but it's just a little shy of a triple.
The overall dimensions are now 7950mm wide and 6000mm deep if that helps. We put a window in on the house side and extended it as much as we could for the block leaving a 1m off the fence. So we have just a double garage door and a window which from the front just looks like a continuation of the house. I think they charged us about $4680 if I read the contract correctly. At the beginning I thought we didn't need it and DH was being silly, but I have to say I'm so glad we got it, because he has a great little workshop area to make lots of things for the house. We only needed 1m from the fence line and have a rear single roller door to the back. Re: Increase garage size vs. backyard shed 9May 23, 2007 11:46 am wow - that's cheap! I would love a trip garage - oh well Re: Increase garage size vs. backyard shed 10May 23, 2007 11:52 am Do the covenants on your land prevent a triple or you just don't have the width?
Our covenants only allowed for one double garage door, but we got around tis by using windows instead. Re: Increase garage size vs. backyard shed 11May 23, 2007 11:56 am We just don't have the width - a 16m block. Luckily it's 50m long!
