I'm soo exhasuted from painting and laying floors and putting together our new bbq etc that I can't even post about our hand over day!! I do have a good story when get over the pain in every part of my body! I'm hoping for only a few days of internet downtime when moving! An update on our flooring - the company we used underquoted the amount of carpet AND floorboards we needed by about 20% - so around $1600 dollars more for us to apparently pay. We will be visiting their showroom tomorrow to ask what kind of idiot salesman gets it that wrong and how much money per week are they taking from his salary to pay for our floors? *Built with Gemmill Homes in WA* Slab - 1st June 2009 Plate Height - 17th June 2009 Lock Up - 18th August 2009 PCI - 5th October 2009 Hand Over - 15th Oct 2009 https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=20844 Re: Built a Perfect House with Gemmill Homes - Handover 16/10!! 284Oct 22, 2009 12:46 am Manda That's right Annie! I am alive! The new house has kept me oh so busy.. plus all of the christmas shopping!!!! We sorted out our flooring issues wihtout payign an extra money which was great but i'll never buy from that crazy company again! We have all of our floors in and we have hung the blinds in teh bedrooms and study. The professionals are putting in day/night roller blindes to teh living areas and theatre. They can't come soon enough because it was hot last weekend and we don't have aircon!!! Next week we have a landscaping consult. Our landscapers seem great so far. They have let me pick whatever plants I want due to my allergies and upgrade the lawn and a very reasonable price. hey also use bio organic soil and not dynamic lifter - a fu manchu approved move I beleive. Over christmas we hope to put in grass and garden beds out the back to keep some of the sand down. Handover went great! We bought a nice bottle of rum for our SS and a red and white wine for our CLO which I hope they both enjoyed. After PCI2 our SS did in fact give us a BBQ that he had hiding in his car... I'll have to get a picture of it. It is very nice and has a wok burner and storage underneath. We were sent to the office early so the building manager could meet us with... you guessed it... Moet and champagne flutes embossed with the gemmill logo in a pretty box and burgandy satin interior. Then the CLO gave us a "gemmill" picnic basket which was great as we had to go to a picnic that weekend!! I have a feeling that my boyfriend and I must have been rather amusing customers for Gemmill... Even today when my boyfriend called (one of our window frames "popped" a gap when we were putting up blinds) they knew who he was and which house we were without him having to say. We have someone coming Monday to make sure it isn't serious! *Built with Gemmill Homes in WA* Slab - 1st June 2009 Plate Height - 17th June 2009 Lock Up - 18th August 2009 PCI - 5th October 2009 Hand Over - 15th Oct 2009 https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=20844 Re: A Perfect House with Gemmill Homes - New House Update 16/12! 289Dec 17, 2009 12:05 am Congrats Manda!! Its great to hear that you're settling into your beautiful home Would love to see the finished pics of your gardens if you feel like sharing them once done I'm still shocked that you got a BBQ!!! And wine and champagne flutes too!! Lucky girl I hinted to my CRO that i'd like a big screen telly... apparently her and my SS thought that was funny!! *sigh* aahhh well I'm glad to hear that you got the flooring sorted WITHOUT forking out any further money!! Re: A Perfect House with Gemmill Homes - New House Update 16/12! 290Dec 17, 2009 2:35 pm Yay Manda glad things are going so well for you, I was wondering where you got to. I too would love to see some pics if you feel like sharing sometime. Our house is going well. Slab was laid about 14th Nov and I can not believe we have already got walls and a roof frame. Not sure if the colorbond will go on before Chrissy or not, I am not sure when they knock off and when they start again. Hubby and I have been pretty happy with the workmanship and the speed of the building so far. A couple of hiccups along the way but so far all has been rectified no problems. We went past yesterday and the roofing guys had put on the wrong finial and failed to add the barge as per plans but hubby let them know this morning and they already tried to call him back this morning. Gotta say I am impressed! Have a nice Christmas! Re: A Perfect House with Gemmill Homes - New House Update 16/12! 299Feb 07, 2010 8:49 pm Thanks Gurlistar!!! It is hard work but totally worth it! Jim, We have 2 6 meter pipes under our driveway. One for stormwater/soakwells and the other for retic. We organised with the site supervisor for the right time to go down and dig them in. We also put one under the footpath as both stormwater and retic were needed there as well. It was an effort but we did your own soakwells. We used the honeycomb shaped PVC ones from bunnings. They were easy to handle. We also bought socks to go over them and keep out the sand and blue metal for drainage at the bottom. A thought I had cleanign up our site for our gardens... if i took all of the building rubble and used it in the bottom of the soakwells then I wouldn't have had to pay for blue metal! If you want a pool check that they haven't poured your left over concrete and metal in your yard. We found heaps of it just short of a meter below the surface when putting the soak wells into our backyard. *Built with Gemmill Homes in WA* Slab - 1st June 2009 Plate Height - 17th June 2009 Lock Up - 18th August 2009 PCI - 5th October 2009 Hand Over - 15th Oct 2009 https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=20844 Re: A Perfect House with Gemmill Homes - New House Update 16 300May 25, 2010 11:56 pm 6mth inspection time!!!! Last week we had our inspection. I am really happy with the house! We have a few shrinkage cornice cracks, loose door handles and a wayward kitched cupbaord edge that will be attended to but but much else to report. I asked about some dark spots in the white grout in the bathrooms and was offered to have a guy cut them all out and regrout. I'm undecided if my pedantic levels are really that high. The manager came out at 7am to see us so we wouldn't be late for work and nothing was too much trouble to be fixed. Someone is even coming to oil (or whatever they do) our door handles so that they are not stiff (as we just asked what was the best thing to put on them). As I have a new job they even offered to look after the house and lock up after the tradesmen. So nice!!! With the new addition of a kitten to the house I think we will need to stay home to watch her as she is way too cheeky! *Built with Gemmill Homes in WA* Slab - 1st June 2009 Plate Height - 17th June 2009 Lock Up - 18th August 2009 PCI - 5th October 2009 Hand Over - 15th Oct 2009 https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=20844 We used a smaller qld builder who went bankrupt about 12 months after completion of ours.
