Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jul 15, 2009 12:09 am Ok, I'm a little stuck on the final colours for the facade. I am useless when it comes to selecting colours so I thought I'd come onto the forum for some help. I have to let the window and fascia & gutter contractors know which colours to use, and since I am about to pour the slab I thought I had better hurry up and figure it out (I am kind of building as I go My general idea is to have the roof tiles in a Boral tile (charcoal grey, or maybe a lighter storm grey), the bricks in Austral Latte (or even maybe a Boral Choc Tan), and the render colour probably in a Dulux Russian Toffee. The garage door will be a cedar door. I'm not too sure on the window and fascia & gutter colours. The charcoal grey roof tiles may end up too dark and overbearing, and I was thinking of toning down the render a shade or two. Maybe I have selected the wrong bricks. Here is what I have so far using some amateur photoshop "skills" Does anybody have any ideas or know any colour schemes of display homes I can see similar to what I am trying to achieve here. I'll upload it again when I get home. Thanks. Blog is now up - http://www.jbdave.blogspot.com/ Re: I'm stuck on external colours....ideas anyone ? 5Jul 17, 2009 7:55 pm Ah thanks, it's back again. I was driving around today and drove past a house that has the exact colour scheme I am looking for, so I pulled over and took a photo with my phone I hope I'm allowed to post random house pictures on the forum: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ It looks like a charcoal roof tile, with charcoal gutters, smooth cream fascias and white birch windows (well that's my guess The brick is some chocolate colour with the light coloured mortar and the render is a sandy colour. It also has a cedar front door and garage door I am trying to achieve these colours. If I can't figure out what they are, I may have to go back to the house and knock on their door to ask ! If I saw a house with the perfect colours for me I wouldn't hesitate to knock on there door and ask them nicely. I am sure most normal people would be flattered that you like their taste in elevations. Luckily for me I found a perfect house picture on the colorbond website and they list all the colours used. It is also easy to ask for the colours from display homes too if you see any that you like. *Built with Gemmill Homes in WA* Slab - 1st June 2009 Plate Height - 17th June 2009 Lock Up - 18th August 2009 PCI - 5th October 2009 Hand Over - 15th Oct 2009 https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=20844 Re: I'm stuck on external colours....ideas anyone ? 7Jul 21, 2009 2:06 pm Well, I knocked on their door and they were very helpful. Their house was built about 18 months ago so they forgot the render colours, but remembered the roof tiles, bricks and colorobond colours. I'll match up the render with the fascia colour. Here are the colours I was told. The one thing I really liked is that the windows don't match the fascia colour. The white birch windows seem to give them some "pop" against the brickwork. Roof Tile: Boral Striata "Charcoal Grey" Bricks: Austral Homestead range "Tan" (with an off white mortar) Gutters: TBC (will match the "blackish" roof tile) Fascia: Paperbark Windows: White Birch Render: TBC (will match the paperbark) Door/garage: Cedar Pergola: TBC My "mock up" seems to look nothing like it does in real life (see photo above:) Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ I did like the way they incorporated the stack stone into their facade, but they did have a bigger facade as it was a double story home. I was also thinking of rendering the front columns, leaving the garage in face brickwork, and maybe even incorporating another render colour around the 3 windows. Re: I'm stuck on external colours....ideas anyone ? 9Jul 26, 2009 9:45 pm That is awesome that they were so helpful. Pity they couldn't remember their render colour. I don't know if I can give advice as my house has 1/3 of its front elevtion done and I'm still worried about how everything wil turn out. Personally if I was having a brick and render finish I'd go at least 50% or more brick work to render ratio. It is so hard to know though becasue I think your little mock up looks good. One thing we got "free" with our builder was a colour consultant/interior designer session... and I am still sure we didn't pick everything perfectly!!! But I will probably get her back to help with painting and buying furniture. *Built with Gemmill Homes in WA* Slab - 1st June 2009 Plate Height - 17th June 2009 Lock Up - 18th August 2009 PCI - 5th October 2009 Hand Over - 15th Oct 2009 https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=20844 Re: I'm stuck on external colours....ideas anyone ? 10Jul 31, 2009 3:27 pm Quote: The colours look nice, but I have an impression that there is too much of render. My wife also though the render should be reduced, in order to make it a bit more of a "feature". Here are three alternatives (it's a pdf file so I've created a link). Keep in mind the image has been created, printed and scanned again so the colour's don't even resemble the real ones anymore. I am just thinking about the placement of materials at the moment. I also forget to "render" the brick pier on the right hand side in the last image - this pier is in line with the other two. On Sunday I've seen your land with a beautiful slab on it. Very nice location. Re: I'm stuck on external colours..which facade? (see last post) 14Aug 10, 2009 10:51 pm Thanks Yev The wife is keen on no 2 or 3, just as long as we don't have too much render. I am hoping to add a frame to that slab shortly, but the power company is stuffing us around. They said it will be on by Wednesday, so hopefully I can get going again ! (see last p 19Feb 02, 2015 2:44 pm Same situation, couldnt decide on external facade colors, im thinking of something similar to dark blue and a lighter shade ( 2 shades of render) to match my blue rio bricks. the roof times are magnum, gutter monument n facia surfmist. Any suggestions... I quite like the colors in one of the above posts with 2 pics ;with dark blue and lighter grey shade render and blue bricks, but dont know which color it is.. Please help.. Attaching a pic if that helps.. the blue brick stays, the rest portion is rendered. I was thinking of two colors lighter for pillar and darker for the leftmost end rendering.. i tried to attach a pic, but couldnt figure out how.. too bad with computers.. thanks, Chinnu Re: I'm stuck on external colours..which facade? (see last p 20Feb 02, 2015 2:54 pm It's soooo hard to decide all this stuff.. We decided not the render our facade, so that means we have just the brick colours to go with our roof colour, gutters, fascia, garage door etc.. the only non-neutral colour we want for is the front door, which is "Regal Blue".. hopefully it all works together like it does in our head. And often it may take additional time if the manufacturer recommends no more than X meters… 3 5652 I'd get the gutters to match your roof and pipes to match the paint - otherwise they become a feature. Nice pick with the paint colours! 1 34273 The Dulux colour consultants are awesome. If you show them the photos they should be able to figure it out for you straight away 1 1618 |
