A week ago it looked fine except for one or two little tiny dark spots. They said they'd add another coat of paint. 6 coats later and now this. Excuse the shadow of my builder on the right - do you have any idea what is causing this? Any advice would be appreciated. Re: Any idea what is wrong with this feature wall paint?? 2Jul 13, 2009 10:03 pm Is it on an exterior wall? because if it is, it may be condensation causing it. My DS's room has a dark blue feature wall which is on an exterior wall without any insulation. After a very cold night I find streaks on it in the morning from water, same as on the window. Re: Any idea what is wrong with this feature wall paint?? 4Jul 13, 2009 10:20 pm Ok, it was a bit of a long shot. Could it be a fault in the paint? it seems very strange to be doing that. Hopefully a painter might be able to help you or someone who has had it happen to them. Blog: http://bluemistkids.blogspot.com "Never be afraid to try something new. Was it painted by a professional painter? What does the painter /builder think caused it? Hubby works for a paint company but his suggestion is to contact customer service of the paint you are using and ask them to have a rep come out and have a look as it is too hard to determine from a photo. It may not be paint related, but either way the paint rep should be able to say if it is the paint, the application of the paint or the original surface (ie plaster) that caused the problem. Don't do any more coats - if it isn't fixed after three, it is time to find another solution! It isn't a metallic paint or suede paint - just normal paint. I think they have the rep coming out. We are supposed to be having handover on Friday. ARRRGGGHHH Re: Any idea what is wrong with this feature wall paint?? 9Jul 14, 2009 6:19 pm Could it be something to do with the plaster? Surely paint wouldn't do that? Re: Any idea what is wrong with this feature wall paint?? 10Jul 14, 2009 8:32 pm There's nothing wrong with the plaster, but the mention of oil has me wondering..... the painter had to come back two weeks ago to do some touch ups. One of the touch up jobs was to oil the front door step - I'm now wondering if he has used the same brush on the feature wall OR stirred the paint tin with the stick used to stir the front doorstep oil. I bet this is what happened because prior to this the wall was fine - just a few spots here and there that needed attention. How does one go about fixing this if this is the problem? Wouldn't more coats over the top of oil just continue to look crap? Re: Any idea what is wrong with this feature wall paint?? 11Jul 14, 2009 9:05 pm Ah it does look oily doesn't it? I think you have hit the nail on the head with what has happened. I am no paint expert so I am not sure how they may fix it. They may have to replace the plaster if it is oil damage. Can you pick out and expensive wallpaper for them to pay for to use as a feature?? You must be new to the internet.
