Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Places Homes 21Jul 20, 2009 9:59 am We also went for the evaporative cooling which was $4837, the air conditioning is around the $10,000 mark!! We thought about getting the extra 2 squares but the house is big enough for us already so we went with the carpet and tiles deal, couldn't face not having carpets and tiles when we moved in. gemmaandlilly Oh how much was the air con? We want evap cooling and if we can get it done while building for a good price we may as well add it on as part of the mortgage rather than paying for it later. Re: Places Homes 22Aug 10, 2009 10:15 am Well, so far so good for us..We are building the Glendale 28 with them and my sales consultant has been very helpful till this stage. Also my site cost came to an additional $728 which is not bad at all. Some structural changes have also been accomodated and my site start is Oct.. looking forward to it.. Quite happy with the price for a 28 sq home and quality is reasonable too. Re: Places Homes 23Aug 30, 2009 6:23 am Thought Id post my experience with places so far. We are one month into our build and frames up. So far all looks ok.. Had much faith in them till friday. Got a call from my administrator to say the builder who was building my house has left. And that we had a "temporary builder" from porter davis until they employed someone more permently. This worries me alot. The temp builder hasn't rung me and doubt hes even been on site. So atm I left with a house that I seriously doubt if anyone is looking after. When we do get a new builder he will have no experience working for places and likely have never built a house for places before. What scares me the most is I spoke to the builder on the wednesday and he never mentioned he was leaving yet 2 days later I get a call from my administrator to say hes left the company with NO explaination why. I've asked my job gets moved to another builder within places. Don't know how I'm going to go the seem pretty difficult to deal with atm. They seem to stuff up alot of basic things. Places Seem to be in disarray ATM. Wouldn't recomend building with them. Places Seem to be in disarray ATM. Wouldn't recomend building with them. Same here, but we think we are in a LOT more worst situation!! ok, basically our story as follows: -. We have our file handed in into the site supervisor on the 14th August and the admin person said the SS will contact us within 2 weeks to introduce himself and explain to us about the site start, which NEVER happen! -. The admin person also said that she WILL send us the written details about site start and our SS contact details within 1 week, which NEVER happen until now! -. We keep waiting for 1.5 weeks for the 'phone call' but since the phone call seems will never arrive, then we just try to give them a call. They just told us that our original SS just resigned from the company without giving any explanation! (I'm expecting that they will tell us about this stuff!! Not US chasing them up!) -. Now, they said that we have been assigned to a temporary SS from PD until they find a new SS. This worries me a LOT. -. The next day we drove to our site, and we found out that there's some activity going on! Our land get flattened and the pipe is up. The question here is 'Do they allowed to do something without given us any written notice about the site start?' -. Also, we noticed that we DON'T have any Temporary Fencing that we paid them for!! -. We also noticed that there's a big crack on the pipe! -. Today we just drove back to our land and find out that the Waffle Pod is on its position!! Looks from it, we think they might pour the concrete tomorrow!! Again, they done this without telling us anything and the temporary SS still haven't contact us yet!! We have complained about this issue to Places Office, but we don't think they take any action against our complain... Now we don't know what we should do... any suggestion people??!? Re: Places Homes 26Sep 01, 2009 8:37 am As said above, there would be no reason to have the fencing at this stage. It isn't really required until lock up stage as this is when kids tend to get in and cause havock! From my past building experience I was never really called and told what was going on, I only knew from driving out there myself. And as for a SS I never met mine with Jennings until it was almost ready for handover. I still haven't signed with Places as I am still waiting on a land release which seems to be taking months longer than expected. I have considered other builders in the meantime but they don't have the floorplan that I have fallen in love with. I hope your experience improves as I don't want to have to find another house to build!! Good luck and keep up posted. Oh and where are you guys building? Re: Places Homes 27Sep 01, 2009 9:55 am I feel that all the issues discussed above are part of the package when you build a house. I have many friends building with different builders and they all tell me different kinda stories. With places, my experience has been so far good as I have dealt only with the SC. My site start is next month and I am keeping my fingers crossed.... Their pricing was quite reasonable until recently.(In the last 2 months they have increased 7k on the base prices). The included site cost promotion was genuine...So I definitely feel their is some advantage there. Octain, I agree it s quite disheartening to see your builder leave without prior notice. Pretty strange. Hope Places take control of this situation. For us it is our dream home but for the builder its just another building contract. Hope all goes well..Good Luck Re: Places Homes 28Sep 01, 2009 3:11 pm Yes they are loving increasing their prices ATM . It is annoying as I am waiting on a land release and every time I look it is a new price, I wish they would offer to lock it in for me while I wait for the land Re: Places Homes 29Sep 01, 2009 4:48 pm Hi there.... But I am sure the initial $1000 you pay locks in the price. For me, my land was released 3 months after I paid the deposit. My house is yet to start but I got the base price of $179K. Do you own land? Well I guess, you might still be able to put down a deposit. The SC told me it wil lbe another 2k by November. gemmaandlilly Yes they are loving increasing their prices ATM . Jeremy & Amanda Re: Places Homes 31Sep 01, 2009 8:05 pm Hi guys, I would say tims we have the same we have the same SS as their is only 2 in places. You story seems to be exately the same as us and we neither have had a phone call from our SS so who knows whats happening !?!? I sent places an email requesting we be moved to a Site supervisior who could acutally finish the job for the rest of the build rather then a temp one until they find somone else. I sent the email on friday asking for this. At this stage today no email or contact whatsoever... If it can't be done there isn't much i can do but to hear nothing is frustrating. gemmaandlilly we are building in Willams landing Total Breeze Air Conditioning and Electrical - Based in Melbourne http://www.totalbreeze.com.au Re: Places Homes 32Sep 01, 2009 9:22 pm Seems to be different stories happening depending on which side of the city you are building. Sounds like they need to pull there socks up over in the West!! I really want to lock in the price as is now. We are waiting to put a block on hold, have been waiting for release for months! After that land prob wont settle until Feb. Re: Places Homes 33Nov 11, 2009 3:51 pm Hi to all building with Places. Can you tell me the progress so far, is everything going good? Any major concerns? I logged in to the online portal they have recently introduced, quite liked it and its really handy and efficient. My frame will be done by end of this week and I will be going to Tarneit on Sunday to have a look... How are you all going? Cheers Re: Places Homes 34Dec 14, 2009 7:22 pm hey fellow places customers, just thought id see how long people had to wait for admin to hand their job to construction? we settled land in mid november we had a nov 30 start date and our admin cant even take a guess at when our file wil be passed on! we realise this close to christmas the builders will be off their feet trying to finish up, not starting new jobs so we prolly wont see any work till feb. also im wondering if anyone was hit with a start date lock in fee twice? our sc told us we would have a dec start date which would cost us $2k dec-feb start. then when we signed contracts our start date was nov 30 which cost us another $1k for a nov start date. so all up we paid 3k even if they did do something onsite on the 30th we were paying 1k for 1 day and now it just seems a bit of a joke. Re: Places Homes 35Dec 15, 2009 8:31 am Hi Jeremy and Amanda For me, the lock up stage is on. So far so good...Only problem was with the bricks not being unavailable so I was called to choose another one (And this time I selected Cat 2) With the file being passed -for me it was 2 weeks before site start- so 2 weeks before 10th October. My admn lady(PH) is pretty good and spot on. She told me that file is passed 15 days prior so that the supervisor can arrange all material to be ordered. Are you using the online portal 24/7 they have recently started- all comments, important dates are updated there- might be handy to have a look there. Not sure about the site start fee as I havnt paid any. But I know that they were meant to be doing so for late site starts. However, I believe even in that case, they should be chargin it once either Nove or Dec...why dont you speak to your Admin or SC about it..this doesnt sound very convincing. Whereabouts you building? Hope all goes well for you.. Cheers jeremy_ville hey fellow places customers, just thought id see how long people had to wait for admin to hand their job to construction? we settled land in mid november we had a nov 30 start date and our admin cant even take a guess at when our file wil be passed on! we realise this close to christmas the builders will be off their feet trying to finish up, not starting new jobs so we prolly wont see any work till feb. also im wondering if anyone was hit with a start date lock in fee twice? our sc told us we would have a dec start date which would cost us $2k dec-feb start. then when we signed contracts our start date was nov 30 which cost us another $1k for a nov start date. so all up we paid 3k even if they did do something onsite on the 30th we were paying 1k for 1 day and now it just seems a bit of a joke. Re: Places Homes 36Dec 15, 2009 9:02 am Hi Jeremy, We were told that it would be an extra $2K if we didn't start by 30 November, we didn't start till last week but so far have not heard anything about paying extra and we will not be bringing it up We have not had contact from a "SS" as such but our administrator called and said all our slab etc will be finished this week and work resumes 14 Jan.
