Browse Forums Building A New House Re: 'Retreat'-ing to our Pl@ntation 41Nov 09, 2009 4:28 pm Ahh well! Knew QLD weather wouldn't hold out for us. So site cut was done last Wednesday. Surveyor was due Friday but went past Thurs and he had been. Yaaay! And then the storms came . Not happy! Washed away some of the dirt on the fill side but not too much damage. Tanks were supposed to go in today but of course more storms last night and light rain today meant that didn't happen. We did get a sign and port a loo though. Need lots of hot, sunny days to dry things out now. Will see what happens over the next couple of days, they might still get something done this week.....hopefully Building the Pl@ntation Retreat on 4009m2. All moved in!!!!!! I signed a contract on a beautiful flat elevated block in teviot today... gotta speak to the bank tomorrow we didn't think we would be signing any contracts this weekend but a block I fell in love with in January was already sold but its back on the market! I have never built before and the idea petrifies me, everyone tells me you have to build more than once to get it right but we intend on staying there for along long time so I want to get it right the first time. I will be watching your thread! I quite like the retreat but I worked out of a friends house for 2 years who has the same one and I was in there more than my own home so I want something 'new' that I havent pretty much already lived in. We have time we will find something! Pretty much locked up except for a door handle or two. Build so far has been extraordinarily fast. Just hope they keep up the pace after the Christmas shutdown. So after many hours of sitting here doing just that I have some update. We are pretty much ready for painting which I think is next but am not sure. They were there putting up the eaves and will put the front door on tomorrow (and take away the temp cover). I had to meet the guy to show him where I want the handle after seeing some other people's experiences with them being put in a silly spot (thanks to this awesome forum ) So... Shed was finished before Christmas. Really happy as the roof (Ironstone) is the same as the house and walls (Dune) are the same as the house will be painted. Yes its a time consuming process, but wow what great progress you've made, and it must feel good to get all the positive feedback. I like how you matched your shed roof to the house, and the colour looks brilliant. I can understand how you had a 'colourbond moment'. Everything looks so open and spacious inside. Your front pillars also look fantastic (the angles give it that extra oomph and make them a real feature). Congrats on how things are looking so far.
