Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jul 11, 2009 5:00 pm Hi, our kitchen has just been installed (shadow coloured colorform with stainless steel look kickplates) and i'm not sure now if the cupboard color matches the kickplates (the idea was for them to match the stainless steel appliances or so i was told at color selections). If it still doesn't look right when the rest of the kitchen and flooring is installed can you just buy kickplates and stick them over the existing ones? Re: Is it easy to change the color of kickplates on cabinets? 2Jul 11, 2009 8:43 pm Sounds like a plan Where you are coming from is where you are going to... Re: Is it easy to change the color of kickplates on cabinets? 3Jul 11, 2009 9:29 pm We have just finished our floors, and are getting laminate kick boards. Our carpenter is ordering a thin (9mm) sheet of our choice of laminate, having it cut to fit, and attching it over our existing kick boards. The floor needed an expansion gap, and this new kick board will cover the gap, and the laminate will have a nicer finish. Re: Is it easy to change the color of kickplates on cabinets? 4Jul 13, 2009 12:20 pm Hi Carmel, it is good to know, because we left ours black because we could not make a decision on the day and thought we could change it later, It seems quite simple, do you know how much it costs per linear metre? Also, what type of floors did you get? T. Re: Is it easy to change the color of kickplates on cabinets? 5Jul 13, 2009 2:20 pm Hi T! It's costing us $250 - includes laminate sheet, cutting to size (by supplier) and fitting by our guy. I think he said it's just under $200 per sheet as is. Our were black too, and they looked fine, but then with the expansion gap... The laminate will be Mocha - looks like a nice deep + warm brown/black. We have laid bamboo. It looks great. We went with the floating floor method, rather than direct stick. We have a 2mm underlay with vapour barrier, then the boards with a suitable PVA glue in the tongue/groove bit. I'll put up some photos soon. Carmel Re: Is it easy to change the color of kickplates on cabinets? 8Jul 14, 2009 1:21 am The kickboard on our island bench ended up with a couple of screwholes from behind (from careless sparkies). As the others have said, quickly and easily fixed with laminate stuck on 6 or 9 mm MDF and this was then glued over the original kickboard. I wish all our building glitches were as easily solved......
