Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Rural Block, water tank, plastic, concrete or metal? 3Jul 10, 2009 3:53 pm We're on a rural block and have about a 135,000 Rhino brand zincalume type tank. One thing to keep in mind with the metal tanks is that they have a plastic liner inside them anyway! So like Brickie has said I guess if you are in a real bushfire prone area the best choice would be concrete (but then again maybe you have a dam to draw water from in a bushfire anyway?). If bushfire isn't an issue, then I guess it mostly comes down to price and personal preference. I really don't know if any tank of that size would be any easier to clean than the other. All of them standup pretty well, we have a 20k metal one thats still going strong and it's nearly 25 years old. However its going to be your only source of drinking water and you will want to be able to clean it and concrete is generally much easier to clean. Cost wise it'll be the most expensive option - but with the size your looking at none of them are cheap.
