She is new and was brought in to ease the workload on the other 3 CLOs! So now I know why we never got regular updates during our build- our CLO was just too busy! Re the hole at the back - they did the same with our block, I think they use the sand from the hole to build up and level the pad area in preparation for the slab. But don't worry - it'll get filled up again later down the track. They were just packing up so we left them to it and went back a bit later and took some photos. We were expecting it to maybe go down Monday or Tuesday, so it was a great surprise to see it today. This is to allow for adequate drainage, so as to avoid water pondng around the footings, which in turn over time will cause subsidisation, wall cracking and possibly a structural failure. Footing excavations are often overlooked, as the site worker is done and the focus is on following trades, it becomes a access problem if not done correctly before the bricks are loaded. This certainly doesn't look good. I would be engaging with an independent inspector to have a look at this.
