Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jul 08, 2009 9:51 am Just wondering how long it took you to get a planning permit from once you handed the paperwork over to when it was cleared. What experiences did you have when getting the permit? What council are you under? I have heard the planning permit is the one that takes the longest Re: How long did it take you to get a planning permit? 2Jul 15, 2009 6:22 pm Under Sydney Council. Submitted plans first week February and got DA approved mid June. 2 complaints from neighbours that had to be addressed plus Council made me get an arborists report on next door's tree - and also show how I planned to carry out work without distressing the tree. (A very ordinary tree by the way) Now I have to get a CC - another step. Using a PCA - and expect that to be through fairly quickly. I'm building in Victoria under the Shire of Yarra Ranges. I really hope mine goes through that quick. But the Shire have got a name for taking really long Re: How long did it take you to get a planning permit? 7Jul 16, 2009 10:26 am Annelies We had in less than two weeks through a private Certifier used by our builder at the Sunshine Coast Council. I thought you could only go through someone private for a building permit. How do you get hold of someone like that to do the planning permit? Are they more expensive then going though the council? Not sure if its different in Victoria.... Re: How long did it take you to get a planning permit? 8Jul 19, 2009 12:36 pm Maybe things work differently in Qld because here in NSW private certifiers come into the picture *alot* later than the DA stage. Council's still manage DA's, even under the new, alternate system which has the 10-day turnaround if you can tick all the boxes so to speak. Most people seem to still be using the 'old' system so it still takes several weeks or several months if there are glitches like neighbour complaints, insufficient detail or missing paperwork. Re: How long did it take you to get a planning permit? 18Jul 20, 2009 12:55 pm 4 months and counting GRRRRRRRR City of Wanneroo. Oh and it's a standard build with retaining walls on the boundary, not a single thing out of the ordinary. 1 storey, large block so it's not building on the boundary, all on the one block, etc etc. Stupid council. Its getting a little closer to where we are. Our council is the Shire of Yarra Ranges. I hope ours doesn't take long. Ours has nothing special. We have a 815sqm block and building a 23sq home, single storey no retaining walls or anything as we are building on stumps. Hopefully it makes their decision nice and simple. Does anyone know what they take into account? What actually makes them take longer, is there are reason? Congratulations! Nice to put that to bed before christmas, now you can relax 3 7187 Looking to start the journey of becoming an owner builder in SA.
