Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jul 08, 2009 12:00 am Hi, I haven't read much about building contracts and how much 'extras' you can end up paying after your budgeted quote. I haven't started the building process yet, but we have put our plans out to tender to 3 builders so far who's prices have ranged from $580k to $850k for both sides of the duplex. We are building a Duplex, that is custom designed and using above average tiles/kitchen/and so on. I was just wondering what everyone's contract was for their home and what did it end up costing? This is just to build the home and not including land. I personally can't see how the builder can quote something and then it increase? My architect says it happens all the time. What are your experiences... 1. Builders quote?? 2. Final cost?? DA approved Waiting on a few more Builder's quotes. Re: Final costs V Original Quote 2Jul 08, 2009 12:46 pm Are you talking about selections that you have picked or after selections the things that have costed more? Ill give you my experience at both so far. Base House price: $150K After Selections we picked: $238K After the contract was signed at $238K we were charged an extra $1000 for rock digging and an extra $660 for septic tank, these were all PC items in the contract. Hope this is what you were after. I'm just wondering that if we sign a contract (obviously get solictor to look at it) and it says a certain amount (including everything, kicthen, floor coverings etc) can it change during the process of building from that original amount? But yeh what you told me is interesting about your home! Upgrades must have been expensive! DA approved Waiting on a few more Builder's quotes.
