I am keen to save the builders margin but i have no knowledge of building anything so am I scared I will waste more money than I save (and probably my marriage too!) Any advice? I am keen to save the builders margin but i have no knowledge of building anything so am I scared I will waste more money than I save (and probably my marriage too!) Any advice? Being in the building industry helps I built our current home, but this time around my wife was against the idea of building again (the stress of it all, and the time it takes out of your life). When I showed her the savings I could generate, along with the ability to have exactly what you want (and change it if you don't like it), she changed her mind. Building a house is relatively easy, getting it right is tough. There is always something that's missed that will cost you money to "fix". If you want to build you own home, get it priced first, then add 10% to the budget. That should cover everything that happens along the way To me, building the house was easy compared to picking the colours and finishes !
