Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jul 06, 2009 10:53 am Hi All New to the forum - and to the concept of building ! We are in the process of finalising our choice of builder on the Sunshine Coast. We have secured (well, we will have if finance ever gets conditionally approved!) a block of land in Woodgrove Estate @ Beerwah. We are first home buyers and are on quite a tight budget. We have been to what feels like every single display home North of Brisbane ! Prices have narrowed our choices down to either PJ Burns or Morcraft Homes for a turn key package (minus landscaping & fencing). I have done a search online and in these forums but cant really find much of a mention on either builder. There seems to be alot of PJ Burns homes going up in the Woodgrove Estate so I'm thinking either they never get any bad feedback or none of those home owners go online! They seem to have won alot of awards which is a plus, but of course the homes are VERY basic and quite small. We recently spoke to Morcraft and seemed to have got a much better deal. Same cost as PJ Burns for very very similar plan house, but with inclusion of Colourbond Roof ( a big plus for us). Plus they seem really open to the idea of chopping and changing around the plan to suit what we want - without extra cost. Any feedback on either builder would be greatly appreciated! We need to put down a deposit either way this week so the pressure is on Re: Sunshine Coast Builders: Info wanted on PJ Burns or Morcraft 2Jul 06, 2009 8:02 pm Hi Jaded Can only tell you something about Morcraft as we have recently choosen between Coral Homes, Morcraft and Perry Homes. We loved the Morcraft Grandview 294 with the bay windows but decided against it because of the price. They quoted 300 K and when it was all stripped from the extras we ended up around 250 K. Still too expensive for us. Instead of going with them we modified Coral's Hayman 276 into a 310 m2 home for around 200K. So the decision we made was purely based on price which they did not want to do anything about at that time. They also did not offer any packages or discount for First Home Buyers. Regarding the build we visited a Grandview which was for sale in Maleny a couple of months ago and were impressed with the quality of the build. Hope this info helps a llittle bit. Good luck. Re: Sunshine Coast Builders: Info wanted on PJ Burns or Morcraft 3Jul 11, 2009 6:16 pm Thanks for that. In the end we have decided to go with PJ Burns. The sales guy based @ the Woodgrove Display home has been fantastic, has been very patient with us changing our minds and wanting different things priced up every 5minutes. He ended up getting the prelim drawings done without us having to sign anything as we were still really hesitant about signing before having a plan we were 100% happy with. While the fittings in their houses are on the cheap side.. they definitely don't look 'cheap and nasty'. We have extended and changed around their standard Castaway 178 Plan - now its 190m2.. not bad for a first home. We are 110% happy with the plan now. They are also getting us a soil test and a contract within a week - whereas Morcraft said it would take up to 4weeks. Doubt this is standard but we have been in contact with them for a while now going back and forth with changes etc so to go from signing prelim to fixed price contract wont take long as everything has been chosen. Note to anyone else searching for a cheap first home, PJ Burns are great value for money in comparison to many of the builders - especially if you are building on the Sunshine Coast. As they are local they dont slug you with the extra fees for building outside of the Brisbane metro area.
