Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jul 04, 2009 8:13 pm Hi all We are hoping to build with stylemaster homes (aka alliance homes) in brisbane. In the contact they have given us they state that the homeowner is not allowed to do any of their own work. I was hoping to install several TV points around the place and some speakers in the alfresco as I dont have to be regristed to do, and to install some drop wires for future internet/phone connections. I was wondering if anyone else who has used stylemaster or alliance homes has done their own work (simular to above) given the conditions of the contract. Did you approch the SS during the build and asked them if it is ok or did you write a variation in the contact to allow this to happen. thanks in advance eggman Re: stylemaster/alliance homes - want to do some own work 2Jul 04, 2009 9:55 pm Hi there, We are currently building with Stylemaster - we spoke to the SS and he said we were not allowed to do any work until handover. We were able to get someone in to do some wiring for home entertainment however they had to have the certificates/licensing to work on site and this could only be done on weekends and if the builders accidently stuffed up anything, they would not be liable. Hope that helps. Re: stylemaster/alliance homes - want to do some own work 3Jul 04, 2009 11:02 pm We are going to build with stylemaster as well. All of the extra work we are getting done is going to be post-handover, so I don't think it's an issue? Can you do it afterwards? (We are getting an electrician in to put in extra lighting etc. Helen: Which design are you building? Is everything going according to plan? If it's part of a normal subdivision it would have had a contamination report done… 9 5662 Hi Mofflepop, I would recommend finding a building designer to prepare plans, they should design to your specified budget. The benefit is you can tender the project out… 9 20432 |
