Our house has stairs. I notice the stainless steel bars in between the balustrades are horizontal, not vertical. It's just begging for my two young kids to climb to the top and jump to their deaths. Melodramatic? Yes, but you get my point...
I asked the builder if this was legal and shouldn't they be vertical and he said "well, they wouldn't do it this way if it wasn't legal" - but he didn't really sound sure.
I then checked through my paperwork and came across a one page document entitled "Stair detail" which has been stamped by the Building Supervisor re the Building Permit as "approved". All the stair drawings on this document show VERTICAL bars on the stairs.
Are stairs allowed to have horizontal steel bars? - they do move slightly like those wire ones, but only a little bit and they're quite think - not skinny like the wire ones.
