Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jul 02, 2009 12:51 pm I am thinking of building a new home but I am not sure which builder to choose. The land that I was thinking of building my home is a sloping land (down sloping) and I'm kind of choosing between Huxley's or Montgomery's builder..but I not really sure which one. I wonder if anyone had built with any of these builders and were they satisfied with the result ( or do you know any other builder who are good on sloping building). Thanks ,any advice or comments would really be a big help. Re: advice on building a new home 2Jul 02, 2009 4:50 pm Hi jasmine14, There are a few of us with sloping blocks looking at building split-level homes with Huxley. See thread http://www.forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=15515 Do a search and you may find some details on Montgomery. What sort of slope do you have? What designs are you thinking about? Our plans are going into council today so as you can imagine we are pretty happy. Mick Re: advice on building a new home 3Jul 02, 2009 6:22 pm Hi Jasmine, Welcome to the forum! I'm also one of the ones Mick has mentioned, who is in progress with Huxley at the moment. Not sure where you are located, but check that Montgomery build in your area (we are Sth Syd and they were going to charge about $10k out of area fee). Also, are you aware of the (generally) increased site costs with building on a sloping block? Just want to give you a heads up! The main difference with what Huxley is giving us and the tender that we got from montgomery is that Huxley's plan was roughly about 53 sq. metres more for the same price. There were value there but we are a bit doubtful of what the inclusions are like with Huxley? Because Montgomery is local, they said we won't have problem chosing because their suppliers are all from here as well. We might have to ask as well about that $10,000.00 out of area fee. bel Hi Jasmine, Welcome to the forum! I'm also one of the ones Mick has mentioned, who is in progress with Huxley at the moment. Bel Re: advice on building a new home 5Jul 02, 2009 8:56 pm I doubt very much you would have to pay an out of area fee - it's because we are Syd. Montgomery have great homes, just depends and on what you are after in terms of floorplans etc. Huxley standard inclusions are on their website, so you may be able to do a comparison. We found that Montgomery were probably out of our price range for what size house we wanted. Maybe ask both builders for references and drive around and get a feel for which builder feels right for you. Also is there a floorplan that you really love? Or are you modifying them/designing your own? Bel Still not in. Don't ask!? Re: advice on building a new home 6Jul 21, 2009 8:34 pm Hi Mick, How are you? Long time no hear mate! Just want to know, are you still building with Huxley? At what stage of the process are you in now? Have you done some financial background check on Huxley? Just want to know here they stand on the current economic situation. Thanks & hope to hear from you regarding this matter.
